TORONTO - Talk about gridiron gravy.
Mayor Rob Ford refused to make it clear Wednesday where he draws the line between his taxpayer-funded office, his taxpayer-funded staff and his football teams.
Ford was on the defensive Wednesday over accusations he has used and is still using his taxpayer-funded staff and the resources of the mayor’s office, including cellphones and a city vehicle, to help run his football activities.
The mayor spent the day running away from reporters - first at City Hall and then during his three-hour practice at the Don Bosco football field.
After the practice, the players surrounded Ford, creating a human shield to keep reporters away as he climbed into his Cadillac Escalade. Ford said he had “no comment” and drove away.
The all out damage control Wednesday came after it was revealed that taxpayer-funded mayor’s office employees are helping the mayor with his high school football team, the Don Bosco Eagles, and his summer football team, the Rexdale Raiders.
