TORONTO - Talk about gridiron gravy.

Mayor Rob Ford refused to make it clear Wednesday where he draws the line between his taxpayer-funded office, his taxpayer-funded staff and his football teams.

Ford was on the defensive Wednesday over accusations he has used and is still using his taxpayer-funded staff and the resources of the mayor’s office, including cellphones and a city vehicle, to help run his football activities.

The mayor spent the day running away from reporters - first at City Hall and then during his three-hour practice at the Don Bosco football field.

After the practice, the players surrounded Ford, creating a human shield to keep reporters away as he climbed into his Cadillac Escalade. Ford said he had “no comment” and drove away.

The all out damage control Wednesday came after it was revealed that taxpayer-funded mayor’s office employees are helping the mayor with his high school football team, the Don Bosco Eagles, and his summer football team, the Rexdale Raiders.

I don't understand how a mayor who talks about accountability and careful spending can be so hypocritical and ignorant when it comes to misusing staff and office resouces.

He misused office staff and resources?

Not to mention, he's usually railed by folks like Clayton, for not being community oriented and ignoring outreach programs for at risk youth.

Here he is, being railed for doing just that.

I'm not sure who's funnier, the citidiots that don't think people can see through this sh!t, or those that can't see through this sh!t, lol.

I think everyone sees through it, just that some figure that conflict of interest and using the mayors office for your personal gain is forgiveable, because he was elected.

It's fairly obvious that he is like many of his ilk, want to clean up things as long as he can still use public office for his personal gain, while complaining about everyone else.

I see lots of accusations, but no evidence.

He certainly hasn't been convicted or found guilty of any wrong doing. Maybe you're privy to something the rest of us aren't.

This is getting ridiculous. I don't like Ford, but shoving a microscope up his ass, to hunt for the tiniest little mistake is an attack on democracy. I'm sorry we didn't get the mayor you wanted, but seriously folks, let Ford have his four years and then vote him out.

I guarantee you that all of the guys who work for Ford are working more than their 40 hours, and taking a couple hours a week to attend a football game, is really not 'stealing from the taxpayer'.

Do we really want a society where getting paid by the public means we have the right to scrutinize how you spend every minute of your job?

So, if you're charged with a crime, you should have your family members on the jury, and be allowed to vote yourself? Is that what you're saying?

I appreciate Ford's care for the youth, but he doesn't seem to understand the mayoral role. Part of that is bsing stiff and posing for photographs and interviews.

I don't feel Ford is evil any of that bs but he is better served as the unpredictable councilman, the rules are too strict for him to operate in the manner he would like.
