Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me -
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

T'was Grace that taught -
my heart to fear.
And Grace, my fears relieved.
How precious did that Grace appear -
the hour I first believed.

Through many dangers, toils and snares -
we have already come.
T'was Grace that brought us safe thus far -
and Grace will lead us home.

The Lord has promised good to me -
His word my hope secures.
He will my shield and portion be -
as long as life endures.

When we've been here ten thousand years -
bright shining as the sun.
We've no less days to sing God's praise -
then when we've first begun.

Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound,
That saved a wretch like me -
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind, but now, I see.

I have always believed that speaking badly of the dead, no matter who they are or what they did, brings about bad karma. If true, some of you have boatloads of bad Karma on the way.

Also, its not our position to judge her. She will be judged, but not by us.

IRBS: So it would be wrong to say Pol Pot was a murdering S.O.B., or that Joseph Mengele was the devil incarnate?

Give it a rest.

Nobody said you had to like them. And certainly those 2 have a place in the history books for their deeds. I somehow doubt 30 years from now anybody will remember who Tammy Faye is.

As for giving it a rest, I have now 2 posts in this topic. Seems to me you should be practicing what you preach before directing others.

Wow. It's a good thing you're not around more often. Then you might actually have time to get fed up with the posters in this group and take it to a personal level, rather than posting on the content of the thread. Oh, wait... you already did that. Hmm.

Lena:

It is the duty of grown ups to remember history and to point at the things in this life that are either wonderful or horrible. TFB is a part of history, and a scandalous part at that, and more importantly, she and her terrible deeds can teach all of us a great many things.

You know, it sounds so reasonable to tell someone to relax - tell me, do you have any other substantive comments to add to the thread?

IRBS:

You are right that I used hyperbole to make my point, and indeed TFB will be at best a trivia question in even five years time.

But why not use public condemnation of her behaviour to scare a little evil out of all the remaining televangelist thieves?

Tammy Faye was born here in the Gopher State. Folks here find her to be a major league embarrassment. Not that anyone is celebrating her death -- only that her life reflects terribly on everyone here.

There's many interpretations of what Karma is, and how it behaves. Personally I don't think it's so far off the mark Karma exists in some way, but situations like TFB's demise by cancer just doesn't add up for me as the work of Karma. We all know someone who's died of cancer or some other illness that induces a long and painful death. The folks I know who've lost that battle certainly didn't seem to have conducted themselves horribly enough to deserve such a fate. We all have to die from something. I'm really not sure Karma plays as big of a role in that... by such standards, Hitler's death should have been the longest, most protracted and painful experience one could imagine.
Your right, but that's assuming all death is karmic. There is a movement of thought that states that some illness are brought on by unresolved issues. Not physically brought on but emotionally brought on. I'm not including stress as an illness in this. So I just wonder if TFB's ineffectualness at dealing with her life had any physical repercussion. Not to mention that much of what we do everyday is bad. The amount of makeup that TFB wore and hairspray she used alone would certainly exacerbate any cancerous inklings.'

And who is to say that Karma is justice? It may have nothing to do with justice and therefore is not bound by laws of degrees of severity pertaining to severity of crime. Karma may simply be the result of actions be they good or bad.

Sometimes cancer hits for reasons unknown. Sometimes it's because of the antipersperant you used....or having certain types of STI's, or having lived in a dusty environment (dust in the lungs can bring on certain types of lung cancer depending on the type of dust) the amount of hairspray inhailed (polymers are not good for lungs) or types of cleaners you use in your house (osmosis absorption).
My husband works in a place where very bad harmful cleaners are used and some employees seem to have no comprehension what the symbols on the container mean or that bare hand usage is bad.
I'd never suggest that all cancer is Karmic. Sometimes bad things happen to good people. But sometimes bad things happen to bad people and you just got to wonder

First off Twila it's a philosophy of life.Pretty damn hard to nail down ceptin in science for every action there is a reaction. This is fuel for the believers. I'm bent towards the hardcore belief that everything we do sets us up for an eventual event. I also pondered long and hard how long we all been around and thats also hardcore for my wiring.

I had a lucid dream once after a Yamantaka initiation. Very Wrathful diety in Tibetan Tradition. So we get this stuff called kushi grass , long whispy stuff, It was blessed during the initiation, and we were tp put it under our pillow .
So like I really did have this lucid dream....It was i was looking at this shiny greasy black pipe ....looked about a foot and half to two feet in diameter....there was this ovel worn out looking hole cut into it and i saw like this ocean of black water rushing through. I say ocean for thats the thought that came to me whilst watching it.....I knew this was my life. The pipe my body and the black water all should have been crystal clear...And i also knew that i had to make clean the water again...which was like going to take forever......

The next day we go back to Rinpoche's and He asks us about our dreams...He warns that if we had a lot of black it wasn't a good sign....yikes!!!

In a show of hands I was the only one out of 35 people./.

Anyway He is a nice guy and during the break i go up to Him and tell Him my dream..He looks and said thats your karma.I said I knew that and like this look of bummedness must have been on me face..He said just shows you how much there is and laughed. He then said not to worry for the water was rushing out and not just laying there.....

My life isn't exactly Leave it to Beaver... i got a lot of hell to work through....

Have a nice day:-|

Well Doc, as you probably know anything worth having is worth fighting for. Freebies are nice but they're not earned, won or fought for and there for not as appreciated. Narrow is the path to enlightenment . If we were all born nice, and pleasant, and considerate and such we'd have no appreciation for it. You have to have the bad in order to appreciate the good.

Good points Twila. I'm familiar enough with the theory which addresses the effect our own thoughts and attitudes can have on our health. I'm inclined to believe they're onto something there.

As for the role Karma plays (or doesn't) in how one dies, you could be right. Guess we won't know til it's our turn.
