BBC News - Richard O'Dwyer case: TVShack creator's US extradition approved

America has won the right to extradite U.K. citizen Richard O'Dwyer: 23-year-old Sheffield student and creator of TVShack, allegedly Hosted Links to Pirated Films and Television Programs.

Do you think this is inappropriate? Appropriate? When was it decided that America was allowed to police the UK and what their people do on the internet within that country?

Discuss:

I personally think this is ridiculous, the very idea that one nation is allowed to impose their laws on another is wrong. Why would the UK allow this to happen? I don't understand it personally and if i was in their position i don't know what i would do accept fight it ever step of the way.

There is a little know convention called the UPOV Convention that was signed onto by
a number of countries when it was updated in 1991. That is an international statute
that has been signed onto that makes doing what this guy did an international crime
of stealing property rights and if the UK signed it its fair game to send him to where
the offence took place.
For your information Canada has not signed the 1991 edition of UPOV, but I hope
they do so very soon. We should put an end to the theft of property rights and the
stealing of materials that belong to others.

as far as i know, that treaty only extends if you are the one supplying the actual theft. what he did was not in fact theft, it is the host sites that should be held accountable, however he could be brought up on charges of trafficking.

That being said, it just goes to show just how much the US push other nations around: Note this topic.

Personally, I feel that there are bigger fish to fry than this. I can't imagine how much money is being spent pursuing this.
