I don't know. His unexpected death is awfully suspicious coming right after the mass shooting in Vegas. I smell a rat.

Where were Hillary and George Soros, yesterday?

Sad unexpected end. I just saw him here in Ottawa less than three months ago. It was a pretty good show. Glad I got the chance.

Bob Dylan has expressed his sorrow at the “shocking” death of his friend and Traveling Wilburys bandmate Tom Petty.
Petty died aged 66 following a cardiac arrest on Monday, having been rushed to hospital in Santa Monica, California after collapsing at his home.
After hearing news of his friend’s death, Dylan told Rolling Stone magazine, “It’s shocking, crushing news. I thought the world of Tom. He was great performer, full of the light, a friend, and I’ll never forget him.”
Petty rose to fame as the frontman of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in the 1970s, and joined Bob, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, and Roy Orbison in founding the supergroup Traveling Wilburys in 1988.
The group produced two critically acclaimed hit albums together, with their 1988 debut, Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1, winning the Grammy Award for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.
The Petty family confirmed Tom’s death on Monday hours after initial premature reports of his death.
His daughter AnnaKim Violette Petty paid tribute to her father in a series of emotional posts on Instagram in which she shared photographs of her father and his lyrics.
Other stars to post tributes and condolences on social media include Paul McCartney, Mick Jagger, Bryan Adams, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Nikki Sixx and Roy Orbison, Jr., the son of Petty’s Traveling Wilburys bandmate.
British rockers Coldplay also memorialized Petty on stage at a concert in Portland, Oregon.
Frontman Chris Martin led the audience in a minute’s silence before the band were joined by R.E.M. guitarist Peter Ruck to play Tom’s 1989 solo hit Free Fallin’.
Bryan Adams and Billy Idol were among the musicians paying tribute to their peer Tom Petty following his tragic death on Monday.
“On behalf of the Tom Petty family, we are devastated to announce the untimely death of our father, husband, brother, leader and friend Tom Petty,” she told the Los Angeles Times. “He suffered cardiac arrest at his home in Malibu in the early hours of this morning and was taken to UCLA Medical Center but could not be revived.”
Following confirmation of Petty’s death, music stars took to Twitter in their droves to remember the iconic singer.
Bryan tweeted, “RIP Tom Petty. Thanks for all the great rockin’ music, hard to believe you’re gone,” while Billy Idol wrote, “Shocked & upset 2 hear about #tompetty ‘we got lucky when we found u….’…RIP.”
KISS star Paul Stanley added on his Twitter page: “No! We have lost Tom Petty. From our opening act in the seventies to becoming a brilliant songwriter and performer I have loved his music.”
Younger musicians also paid tribute to the legendary star, who had such an impact on the music industry.
Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda wrote, “I am so grateful for Tom Petty’s music. Feels selfish to want more, but I always will. Rest in peace”, while John Mayer tweeted, “I loved Tom Petty and I covered his songs because I wanted know what it felt like to fly. ‘you belong somewhere you feel free’.”
Songwriter and performer Jack Antonoff appeared overcome with emotion as he tweeted: “tom petty changed my life. there is a reference to him in everything i’ve ever written. i love his work and life”, while Nickelback shared a similarly passionate response to Petty’s death, writing on Twitter: “We are heartbroken beyond words. Shattered. Tom Petty’s music has been a huge part of our lives. Our thoughts are with his family & friends.”
Born in Gainesville, Florida, Petty dropped out of high school at 17 in order to join Mudcrutch, a band he reformed a decade ago. After the band split, Petty put a solo career on hold to form Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers with Mudcrutch bandmates Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, bassist Ron Blair and drummer Stan Lynch in 1976.
Petty also tasted success away from the Heartbreakers when he joined pals Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, and George Harrison in the Traveling Wilburys in the late 1980s, and he enjoyed a string of solo hits from his 1989 album Full Moon Fever. The legendary rocker scored 18 Grammy nominations and picked up three wins.

Tom Petty said working ’keeps me young’ in last interview
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

LOS ANGELES — Tom Petty said in an interview days before his death that the just-concluded 40th anniversary tour with his band, the Heartbreakers, was the “big slap on the back we never got.”
The Los Angeles Times has released what it says is the final interview with the rocker. It was conducted on Sept. 27, five days before Petty died at the age of 66 after going into cardiac arrest.
Petty and the Heartbreakers wrapped up the six-month tour at the Hollywood Bowl on Sept. 25. He said in the interview he planned “to stop working for a time,” but the band had no plans to stop performing or recording. He mused that the only thing that would cause the band to fold would be if someone got sick or died.
He said working “keeps me young.”
5 Tom Petty songs to appreciate
If it feels like Tom Petty’s hits with the Heartbreakers have been on the radio for decades, that’s because they have. The classics “American Girl” and “Breakdown” were on the band’s 1976 debut album.
Petty, who died late Monday, was more than just a rock star and electrifying live performer. He was a writer and craftsman who added scores of songs to rock’s lexicon.
The chief songwriter on his 13 albums with the Heartbreakers and various other projects, Petty delivered hits so steadily, a drummer could keep time with them: “I Need to Know” (1978), “Refugee” (1979), “The Waiting” (1981), “You Got Lucky” (1982), “Don’t Come Around Here No More” (1985), “Free Fallin’,” ”I Won’t Back Down“ and ”Runnin’ Down a Dream“ (1989), ”Learning to Fly“ (1991), ”Mary Jane’s Last Dance“ (1993), ”You Don’t Know How it Feels“ (1994) and more.
Amid the trove of memorable music Petty left behind, here are five more gems worth appreciating:
— “Even the Losers” (1979): With a chorus that asserts, “Even the losers get lucky sometimes,” this song was bound to become an anthem; one of many hits from the “Damn the Torpedoes” album, which also includes “Refugee,” ”Here Comes My Girl“ and ”Don’t Do Me Like That.“
— “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” (1981): This single from Stevie Nicks’ solo album debut has a storied origin: Legendary producer Jimmy Iovine, who was dating Nicks and producing Petty and the Heartbreakers’ album “Hard Promises” at the time, convinced Petty and co-writer Mike Campbell to allow Nicks to record the song.
— “It Ain’t Nothin’ to Me” (1985): Written with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, this rocking track from Petty and the Heartbreakers’ “Southern Accents” album channels a frustration with reality that couldn’t be more timely.
— “Yer So Bad” (1989): One of many standouts from Petty’s multiplatinum solo debut, “Full Moon Fever,” this schadenfreude-flavoured collaboration with Jeff Lynne showcases a shimmering 12-string sound.
— “End of the Line” (1989): Petty sings the verses on this life-affirming single written with his idols — Lynne, Bob Dylan, George Harrison and Roy Orbison — as part of the Traveling Wilburys.
