Do you think that in today's age that People who are Obese and overly overweight are able to have a role in a movie or TV show where the main storyline doesn't revolve around that they're big?

do you think that these overly heavy individuals could be successful in a movie where their size doesn't overshadow what they're attempting to do?

read this..

Weight is a big deal for TV, movie characters - CNN.com

I for one believe that is is almost impossible for that.

Not in North America. If you notice, pretty much everyone on tv or movies is beautiful, etc etc.

If you happen to watch any British tv shows, they often include, and star, real people. Old, young, fat, thin, wrinkled, ugly, whatever. Many of the Britcoms include far more realistic people, but in North America, there just isn't any place in the media for anyone who isn't beautiful.

the lack of heavy people on tv, or movies, applys to women more than men.

all women look similar, all of their breasts are exactly the same, as they have had the
same surgery, like making many cakes all the same flavour, then they push their breasts as
far to the middle as possible, hence, all exactly the same, pretty boring to me, and I would
think, for the men watching too, it is refreshing to see a woman with small breasts, or a woman
with large breasts, that are naturally that way, it is easy to tell.

The hair is done very similar, fads, fads, fads. They dress similar, seems they all come down
the same assembly line, and are picked off by those who want them.

I don't have much respect for 'how' women copy each other, and live their lives as though their
physical appearance is 'all' they have, and if they feel that way, maybe it is all they have, but
what happens to them when that begins to change, face lift after face lift, till they look like some
plastic manakin in a store window.

I know there are a couple of exceptions. the men don't all have to look perfect, we women like all sorts
of men, and what they say when they open their mouths, mean more than how they look, (to a point of course)
and there are much more varience of looks by the male on the screen than female.

I don't think it is possible on 'typical' tv, but not because they're big. On typical tv, everyone's looks are a factor. A pretty actress's looks are going to play into the story line too. Someone with a big nose is going to have material about their big nose written into the scripts, etc. Image centric television applies to every single person. We just notice it more if it's an image we're not 'used' to seeing on tv.

If you aren't 18 with huge gazzongas go to hell! I may be wrong but gods help you if you point that out to me. Now, I'm going back to mentoring the children. They are our future!

I find it increasingly difficult, when watching anything from the news to a series, to not focus on the surgeries the actors have had. Women are especially weird looking these days. I think there is a lot of pressure for TV actors to have airbrushed proportions and looks. Stage actors are just as entertaining, if not moreso, because they represent people that the audience can identify with. People with facial surgery are freakish looking. I work with a woman that has very nice features except that her nose is really small ... almost flat on her face small. It's out of proportion and I sometimes wonder if she had it altered. I think we are used to seeing certain physical characteristics grouped together ... like blue eyes and lighter skin .... and when something is different, like basketball breasts on twiggy ... I, for one, can't help but stare while trying to figure out what's wrong with the picture.

Sitcoms always seem to have a fat guy ... the all american, fat, lovable, funny guy that everyone can identify with, but the wife is typically not the same body type.

Fat, skinny, ugly - Somehow there is room for everyone to be a star. Were the ones that ultimately decide who stays and who goes. Personally could never get why Ugly Betty was so popular.
