Political is right.... but I think it is a form of political brainwashing. I've kept an open ear yesterday when watching the pairs figure skating and all announcements were announced in French first, English second. There is no doubt that the french politicians have a hidden agenda. This is not good for the country as many quebecors will just take what was said as fact.
Throughout the games so far, all announcements have been in french first and then English.

Quebec angry over lack of French at Games - Â*2010 Vancouver Olympics article - Sports - MSN CA

here's a quote from the article:
"I don't accept being a second-class citizen" Coderre told a talk show on LCN network.

Great! Neither do I in Quebec. When then are we going to rid the province of the racist bill 101? If I have to be treated as a second class citizen in my own home town, then what's wrong with an outsider being treated as a second class citizen in Vancouver? As a native of Montreal, I have to live day-to-day with the constant presence of language police who are committed to try and erase anything that is English in Montreal. They are trying to force a foreign language (French) upon me by using racist based legislation, violating my civil rights. However, not to worry, I won't now nor will I ever cave in to racism, and surely not in my own city. If we all had a habit of caving in, then we would all be posting our replies to these threads in German :pale:.

there will always be whiners, and when I read many posts
on canadian content, they come from english as well as
french, so that's nothing new, the media will pick out
anything negative they can find, and throw it out there,
and wait for the whining.

The province of Quebec and everyone in it can rot in a hot dark place.

Growing up on the Quebec border I learned to loathe those selfish whiners and living in BC hasn't changed my opinion in any way.

I really don't agree. If I was a Quebecois surrounded by a sea of English I suspect I would be tempted to take measures identical to what Quebec has taken. I don't see it as selfish to attempt to protect one's language and culture even if it is a bit annoying at times.
