Putin boasts of Russian weapons prowess, says is ready to share it with allies (not actually a joke)

BWAAAHAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :)

Well i guess the marketing department of the soviet arms industry might just be having a bit of a tough time right now :) No surprise Putin is out there shilling the stuff, "Best gear in the world, 50 percent off if you act now". He needs the money to buy some decent stuff.

In fairness their problems have seemed to be more about tactics and such than gear. They're re-fighting ww2 and meanwhile Ukraine is making good use of modern gear and the tactics they allow. But thinking about it Russia does rely heavily on foreign arms sales and co-development to help fund their military development and production. It's going to be a challenge to sell the idea that russian gear as top of the line after the pasting the ukrainans gave them.

Their tactics AND gear sucks. But their tactics suck in large part due to their gear sucking. Take the Russian air force. They got some fancy airplanes but they got no smart weapons. Well, they do but they are in VERY short supply. Hence why Russia wasn't able to gain the air dominance they should have.

They STILL haven't learned the lesson with their tanks, or as they are cynically called, "jack in the boxes".
Not to mention the lack of spare parts is so bad that their tanks have to keep pretty much to the roads to save wear and tear on their tracks, bogeys and suspension, making them super easy targets for infantry with hand-held anti-tank weapons.

The bulk of their soldiers are poorly trained conscripts, the truly unlucky ones getting practically no training at all. Their morale for the most part is shit, although no doubt in part due to the shabby supply situation.
It's one thing to field an army, It's quite another to keep it efficiently/effectively supplied during operations.

But Putin's biggest mistake is one that belligerents have been making for centuries if not millenia; under-estimating their opponent while over-estimating the ability of their own military. Classic military mistake.

Yeah - and the other classic mistake that's been made for centuries - fighting they way they did last war without realizing things have changed for this war. The tanks and tactics seem to be more ww2 inspired, they had no solid plan to deal with drones, precision artillery and hand held anti tank missiles it would seem.

And as you say (tho Nepolian said it first), and army marches on it's stomach.

Well as I said, their supply situation really hampers their ability to engage in modern warfare. A perfect example is the Germans in WW2. At the beginning of the war their blitzkrieg was near unstoppable. This was the result of excellent training, a bit of experience in Spain and being well supplied.
Fast forward to 1943-1944 and Germany's blitz tactics weren't as effective, due in part to a lack of maintenance and proper supply, fuel being the big one. And it takes fuel to transport fuel.

Fuel probably isn't a problem for Russia but the rest of their supply system is a complete mess. Christ, in some cases what spare parts do exist are fucking leftovers from the Soviet era.

But you're also correct. I don't think ol' Vladdy Bedpan (Putin... poo-tin) understood what modern warfare entailed when he started his shit. That and I honestly think he believed that Ukraine would roll over as fast as France did in 1940. Now he's exposed Russia's weakness.

That's got to be what hurts the most. How do you sell yourselves to potential allies in the middle east and elsewhere as being a superpower that can protect them and advance their interests when you're getting your clock cleaned in your own back yard by Ukraine of all people.
