lol gopher

My husband does that for all the credit card applications etc. Why should we pay for the postage eh?? He marks the applications with a rather crude "take me off of the mailing list" and our junk mail has reduced expotentially. Same w/unwanted phone calls.

As for SIN number NEVER EVER give it out. Oh, and when ordering a pizza on the phone w/your credit card, make sure its a "land line" and not a portable. Seems there are people out there who go around with gizzmo's picking up personal information in whatever way they can.

And don't, under any circumstances, sign up for air miles, or pc points, or any reward / loyalty program.
The whole purpose behind the airmiles gimmick is to build up a database of shopping habits; then, marketers can buy, for example, a list of names and address in a certain postal code area, who have bought soup in the last six months. Do you really want all that information available? Use cash wherever possible, until it's outlawed.

Get your government to implement one of these, it's worked wonders.

https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx

From that site.

If you are an exempt organization, and you wish to scrub your call lists, you may subscribe, but are not required to do so.

This refers to Market Survey companies. They ARE EXEMPT, so calls from them will not be stopped by this registry and telling them that you are on the Do not call list means nothing. The government itself uses these survey companies so they will never be included under the do not call.

Be aware of your rights---and RESTRICTIONS!

There is no way in hell I would be giving anyone My SIN number!!!! Or my phone number for that matter. So they can sell it to people. I don't even like giving out my postal code so they can see where the majority of their customers come from.
