Jiminy Jillikers! I don't put much faith in polls, unless they are done a few days before a vote. This result isn't a surprise, but the attitude of those polled is interesting.

The Liberals, and to a lesser extent, the NDP, have been predicting gloom and doom for Ontario should Ford win. It's expected that the other parties would speak badly about him. Campaign Research, the polling company, says most don't believe what is being said about Ford in the media. To my mind, this is more important than any poll number.

People are sick of Liberal mismanagement. The election is Ford's to lose.

Progressive Conservatives driving towards majority government, poll suggests

The Ontario election in June is “Doug Ford’s to lose,” according to the results of an exclusive poll. It also suggested Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals have less than half the number of “locked-in” voters as Ford.

Doug Ford’s Progressive Conservatives appear well on the way to forming a majority government in June at Queen’s Park, if a recent poll holds true.

“If an election were held tomorrow, there’s no doubt it would be a Doug Ford majority,” said Eli Yufest, CEO of Campaign Research Inc., in an interview.

“This is basically Doug Ford’s to lose,” Yufest said.

The poll’s results were drawn from online questioning between March 12 and 14. It surveyed 766 men and 845 women, and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 per cent, 19 times out of 20.

Pollsters conducted “voter gap analysis,” asking respondents which party they would vote for and if they would consider supporting any other political parties.

The results indicated that 65 per cent of voters wouldn’t consider voting Liberal, compared to 58 per cent who wouldn’t support the NDP and 49 per cent who wouldn’t vote Tory.

“Basically half of the electorate are open to voting for (the Conservatives),” Yufest said.

Those results challenge some accepted wisdom about Ford, Yufest added in a written statement.

Since Doug Ford’s election as leader of the PCs, the prevalent narrative has been that Doug Ford is immensely unpopular and polarizing,” he said.

This voter gap analysis clearly illustrates that Doug Ford and the PCs have considerably greater appeal among Ontarians than either of the other two main political parties.

Flossy and Waldo will undoubtedly say something stupid. That's their job on this board.

I was going to say that they should be embarrassed, but I think there is something wrong. Maybe they are lonely and looking for attention. I just wish they would go to the mall.

They have already destroyed any credibility they had. I expect it will get stupid from here on in.

This afternoon I was listening to the radio. Some high school kids were asked what they thought about the upcoming provincial election. Most of them said that Wynne had to go. Some of the reasons were off the wall. One girl said her mother couldn't afford to pay for both of them to go to the hair stylist. Another said she was told that she was getting a car for her graduation. That isn't happening because of the increased hydro cost. I guess her father was putting money away for it, but had to dip into the fund two years ago.

That seems to be their way, except that more members here are seeing them for what they really are. It's okay to have a different pov, but express it with evidence.

Opinions are usually based on the poster's experiences. They can often be useful and help the discussion, and it's always nice to hear why.
