He tried to deflect with a statement about Afghanistan but that just got rolled over.

I watched Trump's speech on CNN last night. It seemed a very typical campaign speech to rouse the base.
If anything it was a little toned down from Trump in full tirade. But it touched all the points with which the mainstream press has been scourging him. He simply let it be known that he wasn't going to let his critics define his agenda or be cowed by their muckraking and hyterics.
He considered the removal of authentic war memorials in the South as a desecration of war graves. And he was either going to renegotiate or teminate NAFTA. It was music to ears of his core supporters. No retreat, no treaty, no tribute for his opponents.
Don Lemon came on after the speech with a look of utter disbelief and outrage and proceeded to label the President a bigot and likely unhinged. It goes to show how completely disconnected CNN has become in their beltway liberal enclave.
They think they are talking ot the nation but they are really only talking to elite affluent winners of global free traders and post structuralists; an ever diminishing minority that do not see their families being impoverished and mired in hopelessness in the current political paradigm
They had a full and enthusiastic house for the event. The protesters outside were predicted to be 10,000.. 2,000 actually showed, with the usual turnout of anarchist blackshirts bent of riot, mayhem, looting. But they couldn't get anything going.
So i'm sure Trump views it as a success. And CNN is so out of touch, malicious and slanderous in their coverage that it is likely helping his cause.

The only hope for the alt-left would be to reconnect with their original working and middle class constituencies.
That would mean ditching their support of Free Trade and an Imperial American Social Agenda. They would have to repudiate victim ideologies of feminism, homosexuality and racial, religious, ethnic minorities.
They would have to present a moral agenda that reflects the defense of the family and equality in distribution of wealth. That would be the only hope of winning back FDR Democrats.. the one's that Trump robbed them of with his populist, nationalist, moralist platform.
Don't hold your breath. The Democratic Party is now utter beholden these victim's lobbies.. and the ideologies of moral relativism, radical indivdualism, gratuitous licence. That will ultimately hand the 2020 election to Donald Trump. There will have to be a complete revolt by the grass roots of the Dems to overturn the arrogant, intellectual, anti-moralists elites who now control it.
That'll come, but not before its all but destroyed itself, and is foundering on the rocks.
