Sounds yummy...but where did it come from :p This is why I buy my meat organic, from small farms. But I also do not have any mouths to feed but my own, so I don't really have to look at the price of anything. I know alot of people would like to be able to buy their meat this way, but its to expensive for them. I still find it hard to believe that people eat meat 7 days weeks.

I buy my meat in bulk if I can, but unfortunately my freezer just gave up the ghost. As I was tossing roasts, ribs, shrimp, salmon and a whole whack of other things into the garbage, I almost cried thinking how much it was all worth. In betwwen gagging, of course.

The garbage men weren't too impressed either. :p

Cost and availability. We have a few options for organic in our area (no meat products as of yet), and more as a matter of statement we gravitate towards those suppliers/ products. I have noticed however, that since we have been purchasing these products they have been continueing to show up on the store shelves and new organic products have been showing up as well.

Cut the hysteria, BSE or CJD has nothing to do with eating meat. That's why there are still, despite the ban cases in the UK, and veggie people also get CJD -the regulations are irrelevant. The UK epidemic was blamed on changes in equipment and processes imported from the US that had been in use there for many years. How weird is that!! Have a look at www.verymadcow.co.uk

Thanks for that link, hayseed. It says grass fed animals are protected from getting Mad Cow disease.
Organically raised animals don't get it.

Both of these things say "messing with nature is a bad idea".

It also tells me that processing of foods is a bad idea. Its bad for human health to consume these foods, although we have been led to believe it is okay. There may be a conspiracy there - what a lot of business processed foods bring the doctors!!

"Let them eat grass so WE can eat them"

But the fact that meat is not the only CJD/BSE source is confusing me altogether. Like most people on most issues, I just want to bury my head in the sand. So tell us more, Hayseed.

Karlin

PS- I stopped eating meat "each and every day", and I am finding that I feel better physically. A slice of bacon with my eggs is about all the meat I eat now. If consumption went way down, the need to massproduce cows like we do would not be so urgent. They could all be raised organically, which is the safest and healthiest for us.

So chicken embryos aren't meat? 8O

There is clearly another source for BSE than feed, otherwise there would not have been a new case of BSE in Britain since the feed ban there. The drastic drop in the number of cases show that BSE was being spread throught the feed though. British cows are still being fed processed feed, it's just that the protein in that feed is not gotten from other animals.

BSE is very similar to scrapie in sheep...a disease we've known about for centuries. Scrapie is known to happen spontaneously, or through a mechanism we don't yet understand, and to spread among a herd. References to scrapie being related to sheep grazing near dead animals (sheep or wild animals) goes back at least a century.

It all comes down to the same answers in the end. Ban all animal proteins from all livestock feed. Test each and every animal. Continue studying the issue. The biggest thing of all though? Quit factory farming.

If you don't mind, can you describe factory farming?

RE: Prion Rogue Proteins

It varies from species to species, but factory farming is basically a practice that keeps animals unduly confined, uses feeds that do not match the natural foods of an animal (cows aren't designed to digest animal proteins for instance), causes undue stress on the animals (that's mostly in hog and chicken farms) and involves large numbers of animals.
