More proof that Americans are loosing their freedom and privacy:

Bush claims power to open Americans' mail without warrants

In a move that experts say contradicted the postal reform bill he had just signed into law, President Bush quietly issued a "signing statement" two weeks ago that claimed he has the right to open Americans' first-class US mail without a judge's warrant. The New York Daily News reports that the signing statement was issued on Dec. 20 after the president signed the Postal Accountability and Enhancement Act, an act which dealt with mostly 'mundane reform measures' but which also strongly reinforced protections against opening mail without a warrant.

The Daily News says those who have seen the signing statement say it seems to take executive authority far beyond even the limits the Bush administration has pursued in the past few years, and in ways such that the new powers could be easily abused....

Now that Bush has the power to open people's mail, he can delegate it to others.

Government snooping without judicial oversight is more or less complete now. The Internet, telephone and now mail.

And what is especially remarkable is how conservatives are suddenly silent about government intrusion. Up to this time they have always said that government is best when it governs least. Now, they have conveniently thrown away their principles. Well, at least it shows that they have never been principled at all. Their nonsense has been exposed for the hypocrisy that it has always been.

NOW NOW guys....

When you're as big a loser as George Bush, do you really think anyone sends him a letter? I can't blame the guy for opening the mail of anyone he chooses gosh, think of all the good it will do! Special advisors cleared through Homeland Security can guide Georgies finger as he sounds out the words....expert envelope lickers to re-seal them (if George hasn't ripped them apart too badly trying to get them open), increased mail truck service and delivery to the Whitehouse....it's a make-work...job creation effort and everyone should applaud the effort...
