PolitiFact is a website that fact checks politicians and pundits. Every year they issue a dishonor called the "Lie of the Year", something said in U.S. politics that is blatantly, and ignorantly, untrue. They are taking votes for this year's Lie, and the finalists are:
U.S. Representative Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota), on Nov. 3, 2010: "The president of the United States will be taking a trip over to India that is expected to cost taxpayers $200 million a day."
A bunch of Republican politicians: Health care reform is a "government takeover" of health care.
U.S. Representative Alan Grayson (D-Florida), in a campaign ad: His Republican opponent thinks wives should submit to their husbands.
Rick Scott, Republican candidate for Governor of Florida, on Sept. 3, 2010: "The stimulus has not created one private sector job."
U.S. Representative Randy Neugebauer (R-Texas), on July 29, 2010: "Ninety-four percent of small businesses will face higher taxes under the Democrats' [Bush tax cut extension] plan."
U.S. Senator John McCain (R-Arizona), on June 27, 2010: ""Phoenix is the No. 2 kidnapping capital of the world."
U.S. Representative Charlie Rangel (D-New York), on Feb. 26, 2010: "I'm glad for the word of [an ethics report on corporate-sponsered Congressional trips] because clearly the wording exonerates me."
The Florida Democratic Party: Republicans want to dismantle or privatize Social Security.

All of these are lies. I voted for the "government takeover" of health care thing because really, a nation wherein the overwhelming majority of individuals get their health insurance through a private employer is suddenly going to have a government takeover of health care? Only the not-so-bright would believe it.
