Does anyone remember a time when small and few words did the job of describing a situation or person accurately?

Words like "idiot", "moron", "imbecile", or "lunatic"? Simple English words, that were used popularly and were part of legislation. The words had commonly understood meaning.

Words like "mentally retarded" or "manic-depressive" were not verbotten.

Airlines and police forces could develop psychological and personal profiles of actual or likely criminals, so that little old Jewish ladies from Pump Hill or Thornhill weren't being strip-searched at airports. Pedophiles were often harassed by police, so they kept their sexual urges and offensive conduct to themselves.

Now the age of "liberation", "awareness" and "love" are upon us, little abated since the days of hippydome. We use indecipherable, "non-judgmental" terms like "intellectually challenged", or "emotionally challenged" or worse yet, use beaurocrateze to describe people. Thus, even figuring out what someone's real problem is, and addressing it, is hard. We are forced to endure endless, sterile debates about whether homosexuality is pathological or normal behavior. Some suggests that if a gay person wants to go "straight", a psychiatrist should refuse to "treat" the person for "gayness" notwithstanding the loss of oopportunities that a gay person suffers. He will never have biological children. His parents will never have grandchildren. There are victims here.

Heaven forefend, we can't "profile", since that would be "stereotyping" and "degrading" a person because of their origin. We have to pretend that the Bronfmans of Montreal are as likely to blow up a synagogue or a transit conveyance as Abdul or Mohamed. This has real and deadly consequences as police resources are squandered searching harmless people, and ordinary people are badly inconvenienced in their daily life by pointless searches and checkpoints. this undermines public support for real measures that do improve security.

And pedophiles now get a free pass since homsexual people are "entititled" to their "pride" and "dignity". The possibility of my 9 1/2 year old or 8 year old being diddled by some strange man strikes me as more serious that the "pride" or "dignity" of the gay community.

Harper loses an election in part because he honestly states the obvious, that the Liberals have not been aggressive about kiddie porn. Something has to give.

Since you appear to be stuck on stupid, I will do what I can to school you, JBG.

Homosexuality and pedophelia are not the same thing. The vast majority of pedophiles are HETEROSEXUAL MALES. If you would like me to show you supporting information, I can and will. Gay people are less likely to diddle your kids than your friendly hetero next door neighbour or kindly Uncle Nick, your brother. Or, for that matter, you. Fathers are high on the list of offenders.

I am a dyke, and say so with pride and dignity. If you don't like it, screw off. It's that simple. I'm not interested in your wife, your kids, and no, you can't watch.

Everyone who knows me knows I'm not PC. Not even a little. But there is a vast gap between PC and simple good manners. Since you seem to like them so much, I'll make you a few little signs to wear around your neck with "imbecile" "idiot" "moron" "lunatic" and one of my own ... "asshole".

Don't bother dropping this kind of crap here, JBG, unless your kink leans toward verbal abuse. If that's the case, I'm happy to oblige you while you type with one hand.

JBG, I agreed with what it seemed you were saying, untill you said this:

Airlines and police forces could develop psychological and personal profiles of actual or likely criminals, so that little old Jewish ladies from Pump Hill or Thornhill weren't being strip-searched at airports

When little Jewish ladies are not being searched just because they are little Jewish ladies, the law is being enforced based completely on prejudice. Not a good way to actually maintain peace.

After that quote, your post seemed to get dumber and dumber.

The manner to which I respond to an individual depends on whether I like that person. I can be PC :) Next time,I won't be fooled by one of your threads & why are you so anti gay?

I was with you at the beginning, and at the end. But the part about the gay community is wrong. I agree with Cosmo in her response. Just because someone is gay does not mean they are a pedophile or abuse kids.

However, I have no patience at all with recognised pedophiles, and wish them nothing but the worst in their lives. Having kids has reinforced this position. Anyone who wanted to abuse my kids, especially sexually, had better be prepared to get some serious whoop ass brought down on them, and if I go to jail because of it, too bad.

Anyway, you started off okay, went off track in the middle, and finished okay.

RE: Political Correctness

I agree with the bit about PC being silly at times. It goes way way to far sometimes.

However I do not agree one bit with you linking homosexuality and paedophillia. I have never seen one shred of evedience that the two are related.

and for the record in my opinion paedophiles and others who commit abuse against children are treated way to lentiently and should spend the rest of their frigging lives in prision. Anybody who would deliberately harm a child is clearly a sociopathic monster and deserves to be locked up for life.
