Pierre Poilievre wants to steal the labour vote. NDP insiders say they have a plan to stop him

HALIFAX — Should Pierre Poilievre emerge victorious from the Conservative leadership race this weekend — something that now feels all but certain — the New Democrats have a plan.
They’re not going to wage a culture war against the longtime MP, who, just like NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, is a compelling communicator, plays a strong social media game, and is 43 years of age.
It will be a class war, NDP insiders say, that pits a party forged by Canada’s labour movement against a potential Conservative leader who has spent much of his campaign pitching to the working class.

They are completely and utterly out to lunch They've done nothing for the working class and they've supported the libs entirely who are all about big business. They've pissed off their base which is why PP is already eating their lunch. They think they can just say "we're working class, honest" and everyone will magically believe them.

This strategy is a losing strategy in light of their deal with the libs.

Yeah, tough sell for Jagnut & his merry band. He could hardly demonize other parties and pretend to be the one party standing up for the little guy, etc…while propping up the Liberals.

Singh tried to make that distinction clear this week, casting his party as the only one “on the side of workers” at the outset of the NDP’s caucus retreat in Halifax????

“It’s just a lot of fluff,” Singh told reporters, referring to Poilievre’s argument that a Conservative party led by him would be focused on the same, etc…

There’s a tacit acknowledgment, one senior NDP source said on the condition they not be named, that the party will have to work harder at justifying Singh’s reputation as someone who is often linked to bespoke suits, expensive watches, spiffy bicycles and a BMW.

“If I look at all the signs right now, where people are more and more pessimistic about their own lives, are not huge fans of this government or this prime minister that the NDP is propping up, that points to … a change election,” Howard said. “Our job is to be the answer to that change.” but not until 2025 if we can help them remain in power!!??

Makes you wonder why Jagmeet & the NDP are so threatened by Pierre and the Conservatives….when neither one of them are in power? Don’t recall Jagmeet freak’n out about Lizzy May and the Green Party (?both of them?) electing a newish leader.

1) True Dope shoveling freshly created dollars onto the inflation fire day & night isn’t for the betterment of al Canadians.
2) Jagmeet being the attack dog sick’d onto Pierre Poilievre. This is only effective if Poilievre gets distracted and responds to this instead of remaining focused on the job of Gov’t Opposition.

Yeah, I guess Jagmeet Can’t keep going on about how much of a bastard Trudeau is (like an actual Government Opposition Leader) while also supporting him no matter what until at least 2025…so he needs someone to point his finger at, and it’s more convincing than demonizing both those MP’s that’re the Green Party, or the Bloc that just doesn’t even have to pretend to give a shit about the rest of Canada anyway and is only out for Quebec.

Maybe that’s what we’re seeing. Pierre Poilievre is a “safe” opponent for Jagmeet Singh where Jagmeet doesn’t offend the Liberals, doesn’t look like a bully for going after the Greens, and gets both ignored & loses support in Quebec for going after the Bloc Québécois?

The short memories thing blows me away, but I’ve seen it repeatedly. Trying to refresh peoples memories make you look like an obsessive on top of things. I’m not sure if the electorate has to be dumb, but just numb as they wait to see who will rent their vote not only with the money out’a their own pockets….but with money they won’t even earn for years to come.

Historically it has worked by and large - it's a foil to the usual liberal argument that "you need to vote for us to keep the evil conservative' out. But to a degree both of those are seriously eroded by the deal.

IF this was the jaggers first re-election then MAYBE - but lets face it, he didn't do anything in his other terms and his results show, he's lost ground every election against much easier targets than PP.

So i think this is a completely losing argument for them. Voters do have short memories by and large but they lose interest in things as well, and Jagmeet just isn't going to sell the idea he's interesting to working class people. PP is interesting.

The Non Democratic Parasites haven't represented any working people except government employees in 2 decades. If they did, they would not be out protesting resource projects that provide high paying union jobs.

It has often been said that there are two type of NDP. The first type is the blue collar worker support type, and the second type is the woke social justice warrior type. Layton would have been example of the first, but other than him the federal NDP have been almost entirely driven by the second type for quite some time. I think jagmeet is just realizing that when people can't afford to feed their kids, the social justice element doesn't pay well. But it's a little late to convince everybody they suddenly care about workers.
