I was referring to assisting families that need it, rather than spending it to keep murders alive.

You guys have a perfect solution. Build a prison on Hans Island, you kill two birds with one stone, you can claim it part of Canada and be gone with criminals of this nature.

ITN I like your thinking...

I mean we should measure not only the quantity of the punishment but also the quality.

Also the way prison culture is, hopefully he will get a well deserved welcome by the prisoner hierarchy. Peodphiles are the lowest of the low in there

Sexual predators

There is a high count of recidivism for all predators and there are a number of variants of these cases. Castration and medication and constant monitoring including group work may keep an offender on the straight and narrow, but often predation is a violent offense as well as a sexual one - therefore even if the sexuality is removed, the violence may still be part of the personality.

Child molesters and predators however are a different story. I can say with at least 90% certainty they will reoffend - unless they become disabled in some way themselves. They hunt until they die. They should be incarcerated for life or at least in a controlled environment lest we sacrifice yet another child to them.

Law enforcement know this...judges know this...attorneys know this.... it is scientific fact. Unless there is a unique case where a person is charged mistakenly by a frightened child or parent and there was no predation involved, the true predator / child molester will re-offend and these can be male or female.

He got more than Michael Jackson didn't he?

I do somewhat like the idea of the research, only through research can we make any corrections. I'd love to eliminate the entire problem, rather than one individual. You can go ahead and execute Pedophile Pete, but there is Pedophile Percy right around the bend. Not to mention Pedophiles Steve, Chris, Frank, Bob, Ricky, Joe, Jeff and every other name you can think of. Plus, if there is something "hard-wired" in them, quite possibly we can rip it right out of them.

There are so many things we have fixed as human beings. Think of the diseases we have cured and eliminated. Think of the things scientists have done, with some money and time, it can ALL be corrected. Don't you trust that perhaps we can fix this as well, eventually?

How many pedophiles have been studied, the chemicals in their bodies, compared their upbringings, etc. REALLY studied. What really makes them do this crap, like really? If you found that there was a malfunction in their growth that caused this, would you be able to forgive? You forgive the fat disgusting pig as soon as you find out he has a thyroid problem, dontcha? Do you think we should kill a person because there was a malfunction in their brains? Um, no.

I'm just playing devil's advocate here, I'd like nothing more than to just shoot them in the head, but it solves nothing. If they can't help but do it, then knowing the punishment being death won't make them stop it either.

Many were victims of molestation or violence as children themselves.

There is no one explanation as there are as many predators and molesters as their are flowers.

I think they can be grouped but this is usually done by their "preferences for victims" and not how they are "wired".

There is some biological and/or neurological factors at play of course as there are in many aberrant behaviors but very little work is done on these people because they are the ultimate
rejects in our world.

Some would even welcome execution rather than live as they do.

They seem to be connected to the same behavior as addiction but medical science has done really a lousy job on finding any help or deterrent and of course we keep losing children and teens to them.

Ok, your first line was they were victims themselves, we'll just use this freakish group of ghouls for convo sakes (I'm in a chatty mood). If we went back to the beginning, the nasty history of pedophilia, why'd the first guy do it? Like what the hell was he thinking?

I guess I just want to know what's wrong with them. There's a guy who we call Peda (not funny, I know) who lives in my friends building. He always has cops looking at him and seems to coach A LOT of girls soccer. Like what the hell buddy?

Re: RE: Pedophile sentenced to four years

What kind of society are we becoming when we can;t even properly punish monsters that rape babies? This should be a non-issue. Pedophilia=execution. No contest.

This boggles my mind! 4 years for the rape of a two year old? How much would I get if I raped him? A hell of a lot more than he's getting now.

Kill child rapists. We all know that this activity propagates itself- molestation causes the molested child to grow up and become a molester, and now we have a good chance to help end this. Execute him. He can offer nothing to our society.

I do not advocate for such derailed humans.
Capital punishment, though, can have _other_ justifications.

Such as those, who kill (eat) or harm cows deserve death penalty in the Hindu beliefs. Now, Hindu community is large in this part of the world. Should they raise their concerns over beef industry and beef consumption in this country?

This person once was a child himself. What caused this terrible abberation? What are the odds of this re-occuring somewhere else? What is in the _society_ which causes such a malfunction? May be, meat consumption, which is regarded as source of all evil deeds _is_ the source?

--------

"Well-dressed, cooked with salt or without salt, meat, in whatever form one may take it, gradually attracts the
mind and enslaves it."
The Mahabharata, Anusasana Parva, Section CXIV

"The sin of eating meat is ascribed to three causes. That
sin may attach to the mind, to words, and to acts. It is for this reason that men of wisdom who are endued with penances refrain from eating meat."
- The Mahabharata, Anusasana Parva, Section CXIV

"That man who wished to increase his own flesh by the flesh of another living creature is such that there is none meaner and more cruel than he. In this world there is nothing that is dearer to a creature than his life. Hence (instead of taking that valuable possession), one should show compassion to the lives of others as one does to one's own life."

Chrissy Hynde of the Pretenders used to say that people who eat meat should be killed.

Exactly. I cannot understand how anyone can't see that there is no act more heinous or dangerous to society than sexual abuse of an infant. It is the absolute worst thing that a human is capable of doing.

Now there's no need to go overboard.

Certain life behind bars with no possibility of parole is quite sufficient.

I would agree; perhaps we could impose the sentence for high treason (which I believe is now the only charge that can lead to actual life imprisonment) for "lesser crimes," such as murder, pedophilia, rape, et cetera.
