You know you're a little young and wet behind the ears to remember that the West had that attitude when the NAZIS were killing Jews and taking over countries..

I think Canada should do the same as Israel and have mandatory military service between the ages of 18 and 21.

There's no reason as to why able men shouldn't be obliged to serve their country in times of warfare crisis and/or be prepared for hypothetical wartime.
