How many hospitals existed before the Industrial Revolution?

How many X-ray machines saved lives during the Inquisitions?

How much longer might people live if we were focused on life instead of profit?

But the building of all those machines were invented with a lure for profit, caused massive environmental stress and as you called it "Unsustainable style of living".

So I take it you want to have people die sooner and revert to a hunter gatherer society? Have middle-aged mean 20?

How Aspartame Damages Your Brain

'Aspartame is a poison that does not belong in your body, and this is not an exaggeration. Yet, this toxic substance is consumed by over 200 million people around the world and is found in more than 6,000 products. Everything from soda and chewing gum to desserts, yogurt, and even some vitamins and cough drops contain it.'

Both my parents have lived longer than their parents and my parents have never shied away from these additives in food. The average life-expectancy continues to get longer in the contries where these additives are common-place. I think that the additives must either be neutral in their affect on the human body or are beneficial.

How Bill C-51 Would Affect You

* Many natural health products that have been sold in Canada for decades would become unavailable, and remaining products would cost much more (Sections 13 & 18.7);

* The government could designate any natural health product a prescription drug, making it available by prescription only (Section 15.1(4));

* You could be fined thousands of dollars or go to jail for giving your child or friend a natural health product (Sections 31 & 3(3);

* Researchers would lose academic freedom: they could not study the beneficial effects of natural health products without first getting the government's permission (Sections 3(6) & 18.2);

* International laws that restrict access to natural health products could be made law in Canada without the approval of elected officials or any debate in the House of Commons (Sections 3(6) & 30(7));

* To enforce this new law, inspectors could enter private property and (Section 23) take anything at their discretion; never pay the owner for it; charge the owner of the property a fee for shipping it to a secure storage unit; charge the owner of the property fees for keeping it in storage; keep it in storage as long as they want; and/or dispose of it at will.

FDA warns of harmful nipple cream
The Food and Drug Administration on Friday warned women not to use or purchase Mommy's Bliss Nipple Cream, marketed by MOM Enterprises Inc. of San Rafael, California. The cream, promoted to nursing mothers to help soothe dry or cracked nipples, contains ingredients that may cause respiratory distress, vomiting and diarrhea in infants, the agency said.

'Current guidelines based only on the heating effects of cell phones do not address non-heating damage to DNA, nor the effects of frequency modulation used to broadcast information and are completely inadequate to safeguard public health. So far cell phone “safety codes” only regulate radiation capable of burning skin. It's like saying cigarettes aren't dangerous unless they burn you.'

All these so called experts are full of crap. There is no point listening to them and worrying about whats gunna kill you. When your time comes, it comes. You can prove almost anything will kill you, especially in excess. Moderation is the answer, just don't over do it.

8 drugs doctors wouldn't take
With 3,480 pages of fine print, the Physicians' Desk Reference (a.k.a. PDR) is not a quick read. That's because it contains every iota of information on more than 4,000 prescription medications. Heck, the PDR is medication -- a humongous sleeping pill. Of course, plenty of M.D.'s do know which prescription and over-the-counter drugs are duds, dangers, or both. So we asked them, "Which medications would you skip?" Their list is your second opinion. If you're on any of these meds, talk to your doctor. Maybe he or she will finally open that big red book with all the dust on it.

The study, by Dr Vini Khurana, is the most devastating indictment yet published of the health risks.'

Victoria's Secret bra blamed for woman's rash; formaldehyde suspected
She said her skin began to itch after she wore the bras for a few days. The itch turned into a rash, and the rash developed into ugly red painful welts that were hot to the touch, she said.
"I flipped out," Ritter said. "I knew it had to be the bra. I had perfectly shaped burns where the cups were." Only then did she notice that her old reliable bras were made in India, but her new bras bore tags "Made in China."

ADHD drug linked to suicide attempts: Health Canada
A drug commonly used to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity (ADHD) disorder in children, teens and adults has been linked to numerous adverse reactions, including suicide attempts, Health Canada has warned. In its adverse reactions newsletter from July 2008, the health agency warns that Atomoxetine (Strattera), a selective norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, had been linked to 189 reported adverse reactions as of Dec. 31, 2007.

Some nice links there. Thanks for posting them .

I don't think the gov would be right to pull aspartame when there are so many people who benefit from it because of their diabetes.
So you think that the government would be wrong to pull a product that is potentially harmful to people because it forces diabetics to give up sweet-tasting foods? (And that’s assuming there are no safe alternatives.)

Diabetes, as with many other ailments, has been shown to be caused by a low quality of life and consumption of chemical-laden foods (that includes the non-boxed ones) as well as the huge doses of sugar that are included in virtually all non-organic foods.

If you think regulations on chemical waste in water is necessary for public safety, then regulating the contents of food is just as necessary.

Just one question: how can you make such a supremely dumb-ass statement as "all these so called experts are full of crap" and follow it with the supremely wise statement, "moderation is the answer" all in the same post? I mean, I've heard of the duality of man but WTF!?

Personally, I can't handle the taste of aspartame. I prefer sugar: not much of it but I like it better; and preferably demerara sugar.
BTW, I have a friend who is a food scientist and he says aspartame is harmless. So I spose its like a lot of other things, scientists differ in opinions.
