The best era for music was the late 70s/early 80s. Anybody who says anything different is just plain wrong.
I beg to differ. The latter half of the 60's and early part of the 70's produced some of the most innovative and classic music ever recorded: Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Santana, Joe C ocker, The Doors, Janis Joplin, etc. Nothing since could compare.

Nostalgia rots the brain. There's a reason why there was a counter culture movement in the 60s.

Also giving racial homogeneity as a reason why the US was a better country in the 1950s is racist.

Well of course America was better in the 50's, particularly if you were white.

Unions were at their peak in strength and invoked a bigger share of the pie towards wages and benefits which lifted workers out of lower class to create the middle class.

The Corporate Tax Code was only 14,000 pages long vs the 73,000 pages of deductions we see today.

Teachers were seen as guiding the 'future' of their country instead of blood sucking leeches.

Free wheeling Corporate donations to Politicans was a no-no which made the possibility of entering a race reasonable for the average person and that person not being 'obligated' to those that donated to them.

I could go on but it's not the 1950's............
