Re: RE: Opposition demand Arar to be compensated

I think not said:
Where did the US fail to abide by the rule of law in this instance?

The RCMP notified US authorities that Arar was on a terrorist list.

He was detained and then deported.

Ever wonder why Canadian officials did't ask from US authorities to be sent back to Canada to deal with him?

Pardon me. I didn't realize there was a discussion over my statements and I apologize for not clarifying. It was only a response to Kreskin statement. A statement that Arar was probably one of the lucky ones. Meaning today people such as him can maybe disappear altogether for such accusations made on him and never get to voice in the end as he has been able.

Kreskin said:
On the bright side, he could be getting compassionately interrogated in a secret terrorist prison somewhere in the world with no access to a lawyer or telephone. Maybe he's one of the lucky ones.

I actually wasn't debating fault over responsibility in the Arar issue and my comments as to the Soviets and US secret prisons was suppose to be regarded as a separate reflection altogether of today's age.

I obviously was poor at coming across more clearly in that regard.

Maher Arar was not a dual citizen of Syria.

He was a canadian and only a canadian citizen. There was no reason to send him to Syria. You either send him back to the country he flew in from (Tunisia?)

I think, but am not sure, you are incorrect in this.

Newspaper articles I have read have refered to him as having dual citizenship.

With an election not too far away, the Arar case is a lead candidate for settlement. It will be. Canadians pay off everyone. Is that part of the reason our national debt in a land rich, resource rich, sparsely populated country is so high? Hmmmmm.

Wilkins warned that Canadians with dual citizenship, like Arar, could face a similar fate to Arar’s if they "fall under suspicion."
