ST. CATHARINES, Ont. — Beer and pizza go hand in hand, so one Ontario restraurateur had an idea: Why not infuse beer into the pizza dough?
"I used beer instead of water in the dough and it came out spectacular," said Roberto Vergalito of Roberto's Pizza Passion in St. Catharines, where the treat made its debut with the opening of the restaurant Saturday.
Customers appeared to like it.
“(It) was very good. I didn't taste the beer, it mixed in well,” said Cathy Ahern, who tried the beer-infused buffalo chicken pizza.
The beer-pizza is not currently on the regular menu, but Vergalito hopes to add it through a ballot with his customers, who can vote for favourites they'd like to add.
Roberto Vergalito slices a beer infused Buffalo chicken pizza that was one of the novelty pizzas served during Roberto's Pizza Passion's grand opening on Saturday, June 21, 2014. The event included specialty pizzas, a pizza cake from Chiveller Cakes in Niagara Falls and a pizza dough tossing lesson for the kids. Julie Jocsak/ St. Catharines Standard/ QMI Agency

The British have had steak and ale pies for donkey's years (lovely with big fat chunky chips).

Good to see the Canadians finally catching up and putting beer in their pies, too.

I love the steak and ale pie you get from Morrisons with Black Sheep Ale in it, an ale that packs a punch with rich fruit aromas and a distinctively smooth, bittersweet taste, which is brewed at the Black Sheep Brewery in the Yorkshire Dales.
