Ontario PC party president steps down amid purge of Patrick Brown loyalists from top posts

Fallout from Patrick Brown's resignation last week continues to roil Ontario's Progressive Conservatives as members wage an internal civil war over the future of the party and Brown loyalists are ousted.

Rick Dykstra stepped down as president of the PC party Sunday evening, saying he was taking "a step back" as the party moves to "coalesce" around a new leader.

Executive director Bob Stanley — among the most senior operatives for the PCs and a noted Brown backer — has been fired.

Stanley oversaw a deeply troubled riding nomination process last year, which saw several riding association executives quit in protest that the process had been "rigged" by Brown and his inner circle. There was public criticism of Brown's leadership from senior party members after candidates were chosen.

Brown's deputy chiefs of staff, Tamara Macgregor and Rebecca Thompson, have been assigned to different roles and their former positions abolished. Thompson, a communications specialist, formerly worked for former minister of foreign affairs John Baird when he was transport minister. Brown brought her in from Ottawa to hone the party's message heading into an election year.

I hope brown sues the carps out of everybody and gets to be premier.

Exactly what they want.

The left saw how good a tactic that was with the Hilldebeast.

Yeah, I am hoping that brown will win out, then I'll consider voting for them.

In the meantime I'll be pointing out the known truth on every forum I can find.

it is not the first time politics has used libel statments to destroy someone, and it won't be the last.

the true tragedy is they abused and hurt the #metoo movement to serve their narcicistic needs.

And the left applauded. wtf?

Was not the left who fired the randy bastard.

That was the PC caucus.

Flossy, you're just not good at stirring the pot. Brown quit being leader, and anyone who is no longer leader is released from caucus. You'll learn about that when you take a history or civics class.

Stay in school. Quit cutting lasses.

New twist in PC civil war as Hillier accuses Patrick Brown of ‘crooked’ politics, calls for investigation

The civil war in Ontario’s Progressive Conservative party has taken a dramatic turn as Tory MPP Randy Hillier called for an investigation of ousted leader — and new leadership candidate — Patrick Brown.

Hillier filed a complaint with Ontario’s Integrity Commissioner Tuesday, citing “deeply troubling” questions about Brown’s personal finances as detailed in the annual public filing all MPPs must make.

They include how Brown, who is 39 and single, could afford a $1.72 million mortgage on a $2.3 million Lake Simcoe waterfront home as first reported by the Star on Feb. 8.

“There are disconcerting patterns related to the member’s personal finances,” Hillier said in the complaint accusing Brown of violating the Members’ Integrity Act by not fully reporting all sources of income and gifts of “lavish” international travel with an intern believed to be his girlfriend.

Brown was earning $180,866 annually as PC leader but now gets the base MPP salary of $116,500, both of which are “incongruent” with the $7,590.65 monthly mortgage payments on the five-bedroom Shanty Bay house, said Hillier, who is supporting former MPP Christine Elliott in the March 10 race to lead the Conservatives in the June 7 provincial election.

Might as well enjoy the carbon tax.

Brown will be the only one with a plausible platform the party could put to the people of Ontario in a general-election campaign, the result of a year-long development process. Plenty of Tories grumbled about the result, especially that it included signing up for a $4-billion-a-year federal carbon tax, but it’s a platform that essentially hangs together.

Doug Ford, Christine Elliott, Caroline Mulroney and Tanya Granic Allen all want to throw out parts of Brown’s “People’s Guarantee” that bring in revenue but keep other parts that spend the money they’d no longer have. In their first debate last week, they all said pretty much the same thing about discarding the carbon tax, all of them ignored the practical difficulty of stopping the feds from imposing one, and all of them denied the hole that doing so would blow in their imagined government’s budget. As long as everyone on stage is sharing the same hallucinations, it’s hard for anyone to force them to confront reality.

Whatever else he is, Brown is not dumb. He won’t let the others get away with their wishful thinking.
