The Conservative MPP for Newmarket-Aurora will announce her intentions on Friday, according to sources.

Elliott, a veteran politician, currently serves as deputy premier under Doug Ford and has held the position since 2018 when Ford took office. She’s the latest high-profile member of Ford’s cabinet to resign, following in the footsteps of former minister of long-term care Rod Phillips, who departed in January.

Elliott has been front and centre throughout the government’s COVID-19 pandemic response.

She put her name forward in the 2018 Ontario PC leadership race and narrowly lost out to Ford, losing by one per cent in the party’s complex points system.

She also lost leadership bids in 2015 and 2009.

Funny how no one is talking about how many of JT's members are not seeking re-election next time.
