The funding the US gave hinges on repatriation of Crimea, Kherson Donbass and Luhansk.
Did the hinge of US funding go to Russia who’s demanding Crimea, Kherson Donbass and Luhansk at this point in order for a cease-fire until they want more?
Russia has moved very little from its maximalist position and has not reacted to the latest proposal. The U.S., meanwhile, has pushed Zelenskyy to move off his original demands and Trump has often seemed to lose patience with the haggling.
Zelenskyy’s meeting, in addition to security guarantees, will focus on management of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, and territorial control of Donbas, the eastern territories claimed by Moscow.
Zelenskyy’s plan, which Ukrainian officials have described as an attempt to show flexibility without conceding territory, has received little public reaction from Washington.
Zelenskyy’s offer of a demilitarized zone came with a key condition: Russia would have to withdraw its forces from a corresponding stretch of land in Donetsk.
Russia has given no indication that it is willing to accept anything short of full control over the region, underscoring the gulf that remains between the two sides.

Cuz Washington knows the war will end in 2 more years with a Ukrainian victory and a collapsed Russian Federation which is the real end game. Russia is nothing but 3 cities without the Federation.
Washington also knows that if they arm Ukraine sufficiently to actually win, once Russia is out, they are stuck with a highly trained, extremely experienced, modernly equipped Ukrainian military…& that potentially becomes a threat. Better to not equip Ukraine to actually win, but to eventually a draw, like Afghanistan was to the Russians.
It’s four years in already, so what’s another two years (or four? Or six?) and hundreds of thousands of lives on both sides of that conflict? It’s the art of the deal, & both sides of that conflict will be ripe for the pillaging at that point.

He later said that the two “made a lot of progress” on ending the war, and that he believes they’re “far closer than ever before.”
During a joint news conference with Zelensky, Trump cited “one or two” unresolved problems that he didn’t specify.
One appeared to be the future of the Donbas region of Ukraine, which is largely occupied by Russian forces. Last month, Ukraine rejected Russia’s demand to pull troops from parts of the region to create a demilitarized zone. Now, Zelensky is proposing that both sides withdraw from the area to create an economic free zone with international troops and monitors.
“The word ‘agreement’ is too strong,” Trump said in response to a reporter’s question about the zone. “I would say not ‘agreed,’ but we’re getting closer to an agreement on that. And that’s a big issue.”

Before the meeting, Trump on Sunday brushed off concerns that Putin, who started the “three day” war by invading Ukraine in 2022, wasn’t serious about peace as his forces pounded the Ukrainian capital this weekend. What are the security guarantees when Russia breaks the ceasefire? Holy Hell?
Like in the Budapest memorandum? That kind of security non-guarantee? Russia isn’t gonna break the cease-fire, because they want for Ukraine to succeed.
After a reporter questioned Trump over whether he is “prepared to sign a security agreement today” for Ukraine’s protection, the right-wing leader chastised him over his inquiry.
“Well, it depends on what the security agreements — ” Trump began before pausing mid-sentence to slam the reporter. “What a stupid question. Nobody even knows what the security agreement is going to say.”
The president continued, “But there will be a security agreement, it’ll be a strong agreement, and the European nations are very much involved in that. They’ll be very much involved in protection, etc.”
