We, along with Russia and the UK signed agreements at the Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances in 1995 to ensure the territorial integrity and political independence of Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Belarus. We did this in exchange for Ukraine, at the time controlling the third largest nuclear weapons stockpile in the world, to denuclearize.

We said we'd protect them once they got rid of what allowed them to protect themselves and now we're just going to fuck them 25 years later? What fucking fairweather friends we are.

…& The chain of events….no Keystone XL ‘cuz tossed to the side on Biden’s first day in office for political theatre…. So there will have to be more oil move by rail, but only limited rail capacity during a supply chain crisis so other things will have to get bumped….like?

Now are there enough oil car tankers for the rails to compensate for the extra 70,000 barrels per day not coming via Russia into the US? What pays the less than the shipping of oil that is going to get bumped? Will it be food supplies? Something else? Putin flaps his wings on one side of the planet and all of a sudden it affects the shipping of grains and potash and lumber?

Mentioned in the video is Biden calling Saudi.

Much as I hate the power hold the Saudi's have over so much, really there isn't much choice here.

Gas prices are going to go up; Saudi's really the only option to try and keep them down. Whether they will help or not is another story.

Chances are a given barrel of oil is just as likely to be drilled in Kuwait and fill a gas tank in Japan as it is to be drilled in Oklahoma and pumped into a gas tank in Tulsa.

And in all likelihood that barrel got to where it was going via refineries in Texas or California anyhow, because between the two of 'em they have more than half of the world's refining capacity.

The "oil lake" and refining and transport chains are complex beyond belief. And anybody who talks about "net exports" of crude oil like it means anything (besides the profits of that drilling company and the trade balance of the country) is only showing her ignorance. The price of crude is less than half the price of a gallon or litre of gas. The real money's in refining (and, as always, taxation).
