NEW YORK — A U.S. judge on Friday rejected Ghislaine Maxwell’s bid to dismiss the original indictment accusing the British socialite of aiding the financier Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of girls.

U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan rejected Maxwell’s arguments that she could not get a fair trial because of a drumbeat of negative media publicity, or was being scapegoated because Epstein was dead.

“The court will not dismiss the indictment on Maxwell’s bare assertion that numerous witnesses are engaged in a perjurious conspiracy against her,” Nathan wrote in a 34-page decision. “And the court will take all appropriate steps to ensure that the pretrial publicity in this case does not compromise Maxwell’s right to a fair and impartial jury.”

Nathan nonetheless agreed to Maxwell’s request to sever two perjury charges, which would be tried separately.

Lawyers for Maxwell did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss in Manhattan declined to comment.

Nathan’s decision covers the first six of the eight criminal counts Maxwell faces, to which she has pleaded not guilty.

They concern accusations that Maxwell, 59, helped Epstein recruit and groom three girls for him to sexually abuse from 1994 to 1997, and lied under oath about her role in depositions taken in 2016 for a separate civil lawsuit.

She is to be arraigned on April 23 on sex trafficking charges that she groomed and paid a fourth girl to provide nude massages to Epstein and engage in sex acts with him from 2001 to 2004, and recruited others to offer erotic massages.

Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 after being arrested on sex trafficking charges.

Maxwell has been jailed in Brooklyn since her arrest last July, and faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted.

She is seeking a 90-day or longer delay in her scheduled July 12 trial, saying prosecutors’ adding the sex trafficking charges on March 29 vastly expanded the case and would make going forward as scheduled “a miscarriage of justice.”

Nathan’s decision addressed 12 motions from Maxwell early this year to dismiss or narrow the criminal case.

These included arguments that Epstein’s 2007 non-prosecution agreement covered Maxwell, and that her Manhattan-based prosecutors obtained the indictment too late.

Nathan agreed with the prosecutors that Epstein’s agreement with their Miami counterparts did not bind them or cover the original indictment, and that the charges were timely under a 2003 law concerning sexual abuse of minors.

The judge also said Maxwell’s claim that the suburban White Plains, New York, grand jury that indicted her last June lacked diversity because it had too few Blacks and Hispanics was moot, because a Manhattan grand jury returned the March 29 indictment.

At the time of the original indictment, no grand juries were being seated in Manhattan because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Nathan, however, said severing the perjury charges was needed to avoid admitting “evidence of other acts likely to be unduly prejudicial,” and forcing Maxwell’s lawyers to disqualify themselves because they were involved in the earlier civil case.

In exchange for immunity under his nonprosecution agreement, Epstein pleaded guilty in 2008 to Florida state prostitution charges and served just 13 months in jail. The arrangement is now widely considered too lenient.

As a wrecking ball slammed into pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s Palm Beach mansion, Ghislaine Maxwell used a #believewomen gambit in her latest bail bid.

Crews in Florida on Monday began ripping down the Epstein mansion, where many of the financier’s sex crimes involving underage girls occurred.

The Palm Beach Post reported that the developer who purchased the $20-million mansion claimed it would be “satisfying” to pulverize the pedo’s lair.

For British socialite Maxwell, it must seem as though a wrecking ball obliterates every effort she makes to get out on bail.

Late Monday, her legal eagles made the outlandish comparison between Maxwell and the young women she allegedly abused.

Oh, and they pointed out that she isn’t a monster.

Lawyer David Oscar Markus said the prosecution’s case rests on the testimony of women whose claims are backed by documentation and witnesses.

But when the disgraced Maxwell moans about conditions in the Metropolitan Detention Center she isn’t believed, her lawyer whinged.

In the nine months since the 59-year-old onetime belle of the ball has been caged, her lawyers have called conditions “torture,” likened her treatment to that of fictitious cannibal Hannibal Lecter, and tossed in a slew of other inflammatory accusations.

She has also claimed she’s been more shabbily treated than celebrity rapists Bill Cosby and Harvey Weinstein.

Now, you can add martyr to the list.

“The government professes to believe women, but only when those women are on their side, despite their inconsistent and self-contradictory statements about old, uncorroborated allegations,” Markus wrote in his filing.

“When it is Ms. Maxwell who has been abused, the government wants to believe only the abusers who say they did no such thing and without watching the actual video. It seems like the only rule is to get Ms. Maxwell at all costs.”

So far, Maxwell’s bids for bail have been torpedoed three times by Judge Alison Nathan.

According to the New York Daily News, Maxwell will try again next week.

Maxwell and her legal team have claimed she’s a proxy for her onetime sugar daddy Epstein, who mysteriously died while in custody in 2019.

“As much as the government would like this case to be the Jeffrey Epstein show, Ghislaine Maxwell is not Jeffrey Epstein,” Markus added.

When she does finally go to trial in July, there will be two separate trials.

One will be for allegedly grooming underage girls to have sex with Epstein and the other for lying under oath about her allegedly debauched lifestyle.

She has pleaded not guilty and denies any wrongdoing.

NEW YORK — British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell pleaded not guilty on Friday to federal sex trafficking charges in the case accusing her of helping the late financier Jeffrey Epstein recruit and sexually abuse girls.

Maxwell, 59, entered her plea through her lawyer before U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan in Manhattan.

The charges had been included in an eight-count indictment unveiled on March 29. It was the first time Maxwell had faced a judge in person since her arrest last July.

Prosecutors have accused Maxwell of grooming and paying a girl who, starting at age 14, gave Epstein nude massages and engaged in sex acts with him from 2001 to 2004, and said the girl recruited others to offer erotic massages.

Maxwell previously pleaded not guilty to charges she helped Epstein recruit and groom three other girls for him to sexually abuse from 1994 to 1997, and committed perjury.

Epstein, 66, killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019, one month after being arrested on sex trafficking charges.

Maxwell’s trial remains scheduled for July 12 provided a courtroom is available, but her lawyers are seeking a 120 or 180-day delay because of the new charges, a request prosecutors oppose.

“Ghislaine is looking forward to that trial,” a spokesman, David Markus, said after the arraignment. “She’s looking forward to fighting and she will fight.”

Nathan has not decided whether to delay the trial, but said she wants to start as close as possible to July 12 if there were no delay.

In a letter released after the arraignment, lawyers for Maxwell proposed starting on Nov. 8, 2021 or Jan. 10, 2022.

Maxwell faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted on all charges.

The two perjury counts would be handled separately in a second trial.

Friday’s hearing marked the first time Maxwell has publicly appeared in person since her arrest last July at her home in New Hampshire.

Prosecutors said she had been hiding out, while Maxwell’s lawyers said she moved there to escape incessant negative media publicity. Since her arrest, she has been jailed in Brooklyn.

Maxwell wore a loose-fitting, blue short-sleeve shirt and white face mask, with her dark hair reaching below her shoulders. Her older sister, Isabel Maxwell, attended the hearing. Maxwell had appeared by video for her prior arraignment.

Lawyers for Maxwell have complained that she has suffered from weight and hair loss in jail, which prosecutors have denied.

Nathan has denied bail three times, calling Maxwell a substantial flight risk despite a proposed $28.5 million bail package.

On Monday, Maxwell’s lawyers are expected to argue before the federal appeals court in Manhattan that the third bail denial should be overturned.

In seeking a trial delay, Maxwell’s lawyers cited the “voluminous” amounts of evidence, blamed prosecutors for being too slow to turn over materials, and said jail restrictions have impeded Maxwell from preparing her defence.

Prosecutors have pledged to make “significant efforts” to ensure that Maxwell was prepared for a July trial.

They also said a delay would also harm the four alleged victims, saying two have reported significant stress from the case and expressed a desire to go to trial.

“Everybody felt that they were cheated by Mr. Epstein’s death,” David Boies, a lawyer for some of Epstein’s and Maxwell’s accusers, said after the arraignment.

“Now that Miss Maxwell is going to go to trial,” he added, “I think that is something that they’re looking forward to.”

Even if no delay were granted, a July 12 start is not assured.

Only seven courtrooms in the Manhattan courthouse have been reconfigured for the COVID-19 pandemic to accommodate jury trials, according to a court spokesman.

Jailed defendants in criminal cases get higher priority for jury trials, but some defendants are ahead of Maxwell.

NEW YORK — Ghislaine Maxwell deserves bail because her “horrific” jail conditions make it impossible to prepare for trial on charges she procured teenage girls for Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse, her lawyer told a U.S. appeals court on Monday.

The lawyer David Markus said it’s unfair to force Maxwell to review millions of pages of materials from behind bars, with guards waking her with flashlights every 15 minutes on a misplaced concern she might, like Epstein, commit suicide.

“We just want a fair opportunity, a fair chance, so she can get ready for the trial of her life,” Markus told a panel of the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan. “It’s impossible to prepare for trial when you’re getting no sleep.”

Maxwell, 59, has pleaded not guilty to helping Epstein recruit and groom three girls for sex from 1994 to 1997, and sex trafficking for grooming and paying a fourth girl for nude massages and sex acts with the financier from 2001 to 2004.

The British socialite is appealing U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan’s March 22 rejection of a $28.5 million bail package that included renouncing her British and French citizenships.

Nathan has denied bail three times, and said Maxwell was a “significant risk of flight” even with high bail.

Maxwell has been jailed in Brooklyn since her July 2020 arrest at a million-dollar New Hampshire home that prosecutors called a hideout. Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Federal prosecutor Lara Pomerantz told the three-judge appeals court panel that Nathan did not commit “clear error,” a high legal standard, in denying bail.

One judge asked whether prison officials not wanting to “risk another embarrassment” of another inmate’s suicide should let an independent psychiatrist evaluate Maxwell.

Pomerantz said Maxwell’s lawyers haven’t asked for one, and said Nathan has “actively” monitored her jail conditions to ensure she’ll be ready for trial.

The appeals court did not say when it will rule.

Maxwell faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted. A trial is scheduled for July 12, but Maxwell wants it delayed until November or next January because of its complexity.

NEW YORK — A U.S. appeals court on Tuesday rejected Ghislaine Maxwell’s latest request for bail, after her lawyer said guards in her Brooklyn jail were keeping her awake at night to ensure she does not commit suicide like the financier Jeffrey Epstein.

In a brief order, the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said that to the extent Maxwell is being deprived of sleep, she should seek relief from U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan, who oversees her criminal case.

“I’m heartbroken,” Maxwell’s lawyer David Markus said in an email. “If our system tolerates detaining a presumed innocent 59-year old woman with no criminal history and subjecting her to tortuous conditions, simply because of her old connection to Jeffrey Epstein, we should all be deeply troubled.”

Maxwell, 59, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges over her alleged role in procuring four teenage girls for Epstein to abuse between 1994 and 2004.

She had been appealing Nathan’s March 22 rejection of a $28.5 million bail package, the third time the judge denied bail.

Nathan said Maxwell remained a “significant risk of flight” despite the high dollar amount, and that no conditions would ensure she would show up in court.

In oral arguments on Monday, Markus objected to jail guards’ waking Maxwell every 15 minutes with flashlights to make sure she was still breathing, despite there being no evidence she was suicidal.

Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Lawyers for Maxwell have also said other conditions at the Brooklyn jail prevented her from preparing effectively for her scheduled July 12 trial, which she is seeking to delay. Maxwell faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted.

Lawyers for disgraced British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell are doubling down on springing the accused sex trafficker ahead of her July trial.

On Thursday, the legal eagles released the first photo of the 59-year-old former Jeffrey Epstein paramour since she was busted last summer.

The photo shows the haggard, now gray-haired Maxwell sporting a black eye.

According to the New York Post, the photo was released by the publishing heiress’s lawyer, Bobbi Sternheim, and was included in a letter filed in connection with her criminal case.

According to Sternheim, the “apparent” injury has triggered renewed bad blood between Maxwell and her jailers.

“Last night, she was confronted by MDC (the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn) staff due (to) a visible bruise over her left eye,” Sternheim wrote. “No guard addressed the bruise until Ms. Maxwell, who has no mirror, caught a reflection of her aching eye in the glean of a nail clipper.”

She added: “At that point, MDC staff confronted Ms. Maxwell regarding the source of the bruise, threatening to place her in the SHU (special housing unit) if she did not reveal how she got it.”

Inmates are typically transferred to the unit if they’re injured in some way or are targeted for abuse by other jailbirds.

Since she was jailed, Maxwell’s lawyers and supporters have unleashed a near endless barrage of complaints, going so far as to say her treatment was worse than “Hannibal Lecter’s.”

Now, her lawyers are claiming the former party girl’s shiner is a result of bruising from covering her eyes with a sock or towel.

They have complained bitterly that guards shine flashlights into her cell every 15 minutes throughout the evening.

Maxwell’s repeated attempts at bail have all been torpedoed because of her wealth, international connections and multiple passports.

In addition to sex trafficking charges, she also faces a perjury beef.

New York tabloids have referred to her as “Epstein’s pimp” for allegedly procuring underage girls for the late billionaire to sexually abuse.

She has pleaded not guilty and denies any wrongdoing.

Ghislaine Maxwell looks like she’s been chiselled from a block of ice.

And if her demeanour is any indication, the inside matches the outside, according to a former friend who has known the disgraced socialite for years.

Today, the former paramour of billionaire pedophile Jeffrey Epstein is cooling her jets in a Brooklyn jail while she awaits her July trial on sex trafficking charges.

Maxwell has pleaded not guilty and none of the charges have been proven in court.

A wealthy California woman said she met Maxwell at a gala in 2004 at her Los Angeles-area home, and they became fast friends.

“My first impression was that she was very intelligent and very charismatic, she knows what to say,” the woman, who asked to remain anonymous because she has spoken to the FBI about the Maxwell case, told the Toronto Sun.

She revealed that Maxwell was drawn to the wealthy like a moth to a flame.

“This woman was worse than Jeffrey Epstein. She has no conscience … I wondered about a lot of things with her, sometimes,” the woman said, adding that Maxwell was hypersexual.

“She told me she could get into anybody’s pants and that ‘girls are like candy.'”

These were the days before Epstein was arrested in Florida on an underage prostitution beef.

“I visited her at her place on E. 65th St. (in New York) and at Jeff’s place, and we flew together several times,” the woman said.

But it didn’t take long for her to start noticing disturbing things unfolding in the Maxwell-Epstein orbit.

She said that Maxwell was attracted to both men and women and sincerely hoped she would one day marry creepy Epstein. Both were obsessed with social standing and even had rankings.

“There were always half-naked young women around both Maxwell and Epstein. Yes, I saw them, and it troubled me,” she said.

A friend said Maxwell was obsessed with sex. A woman alleged to be Maxwell stretches out in the sand at Jeffrey Epstein’s Florida mansion. PALM BEACH STATES ATTORNEY
The woman revealed she has been questioned by the FBI, but she wishes she had acted sooner like many others.

“I feel a burden of guilt for not having done something sooner,” she said. “But they (Maxwell and Epstein) were a team when it came to sex, money and power. A very formidable team and the most perverse people I’ve ever seen.”

Even today, the Californian said she remains mind-boggled by the extent of the corruption around the twosome.

Now, the 59-year-old publishing heiress is backed into a desperate corner. If convicted, she could be in jail for decades.

“If it looks like she’s going down, Ghislaine will make a deal, and she’ll throw people under the bus, including Prince Andrew,” the former friend explains.

NEW YORK — A U.S. judge on Monday granted Ghislaine Maxwell’s request to delay her trial on charges she procured teenage girls for the late financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse, and said the trial will begin in the fall.

U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan said a “short” postponement of the scheduled July 12 trial was appropriate because federal prosecutors added new charges to the case, and COVID-19 protocols made trial preparation harder.

Nathan ordered prosecutors and Maxwell’s lawyers to jointly propose a new trial date by May 10.

Lawyers for Maxwell did not immediately respond to requests for comment. A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss in Manhattan declined to comment.

Maxwell, 59, had sought to delay the trial until at least Nov. 8, citing the charges added on March 29 to the government’s case.

She has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges over her alleged role in procuring four teenage girls for Epstein to abuse between 1994 and 2004.

NEW YORK — A U.S. judge will seek to start Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial on charges she procured teenage girls for Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse on Nov. 29, rejecting the British socialite’s request to begin three weeks earlier.

U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan in Manhattan said on Tuesday the later date served the interests of justice because it would let Maxwell’s four prosecutors continue without scheduling disruptions.

The prosecutors had argued that the complex case, resulting from years of investigation, made letting them see it through to trial “a particularly compelling interest.”

Nathan said the trial date is subject to courtroom availability and COVID-19 protocols, and that she would seek to conduct jury selection during the week of Nov. 15.

Maxwell’s lawyers did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

One of the lawyers, Bobbi Sternheim, had written that the Nov. 29 date, which is the first Monday after the Thanksgiving Day holiday, would have a “severe and irreparable impact on Maxwell’s defence.”

She said it would keep Maxwell in jail longer, could disrupt jurors’ travel plans, and could “cast defence counsel and the defence case in a negative light as jurors impatiently wait for the trial to conclude before Christmas, which it won’t.”

Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges in an eight-count indictment over her alleged role in procuring four teenage girls for Epstein to abuse between 1994 and 2004.

The 59-year-old Maxwell has been jailed in Brooklyn since her arrest last July.

Epstein, a financier, killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

NEW YORK — A U.S. judge on Friday rejected Ghislaine Maxwell’s effort to stop jail officials from shining flashlights into her cell at night, which the British socialite said impedes her preparation for her November trial on sex crime charges.

U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan in Manhattan said the government offered “neutral reasons” for officials at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn to conduct “flashlight surveillance” of Maxwell every 15 minutes.

Prosecutors had said the checkups were appropriate because Maxwell has been housed alone, faced serious charges and might experience stress from the high-profile case.

But the judge urged jail officials to consider whether to reduce sleep disruption for pretrial inmates like Maxwell, and impose only protocols that were “necessary for her safety and security” and consistent with the treatment of other inmates.

Lawyers for Maxwell did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Nathan wants the trial to begin on Nov. 29, subject to courtroom availability and COVID-19 protocols. Maxwell has been jailed since her arrest in July.

Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

The mysterious woman known as Epstein’s alleged pimp is getting the full true-crime TV treatment.

Discovery+ has given the green light to a docuseries focusing on billionaire pervert Jeffrey Epstein’s ex-gal pal and suspected accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell.

The 59-year-old British socialite is currently caged in Brooklyn and is expected to go on trial for alleged sex trafficking in November. She has pleaded not guilty.

‘Chasing Ghislaine’ is slated to air later this year, just in time for her explosive trial. The executive producers are best-selling author James Patterson and Vanity Fair writer Vicky Ward.

Maxwell has long been an enigma.

The favourite daughter of disgraced British publishing baron Robert Maxwell, she moved to New York in the early 1990’s to escape the scorn created by her crooked father.

That’s where she met billionaire hedge-fund manager Epstein.

Epstein was apparently wired 24/7 for sex with underage girls. He was convicted in 2008 and had to register as a sex offender.

Maxwell is accused of grooming young women to be sexually abused by her paramour at way stations on the jet-set trail.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, the series will have access to more than 30 interviews Ward is currently conducting. There will also be a podcast.

“(The aim is to expose) the mystery behind Epstein’s wealth and influence and how Maxwell’s alleged role within this conspiracy threatens a shadowy cabal of international elite and world leaders who might do anything to keep their identities — and motives — hidden,” the network said in a release.

Ward — a former editor at the New York Post — said she often ran in the same social circles as Maxwell.

“Ghislaine Maxwell’s trial is expected to start in November, and we have the definitive look at the man and his alleged primary co-conspirator, who many believe holds the keys to the remaining mysteries of Epstein’s operations, including the web of men whose money propped him up and allowed him to victimize young girls for nearly two decades,” said Lisa Holme, group senior v-p of content and commercial strategy for Discovery Inc.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Vicky Ward, James Patterson Entertainment and Blackfin to shed light on the case — and the suspected cover-up.”

U.K. network Channel 4 is also working on a feature-length documentary examining the life and times of Maxwell entitled ‘Who Is Ghislaine Maxwell?’

Two Manhattan jail guards who were on duty the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself admitted to falsifying records but would avoid prison under an agreement with U.S. prosecutors to resolve criminal charges.

Tova Noel and Michael Thomas had been accused of falling asleep and surfing the internet when they should have been monitoring Epstein on Aug. 10, 2019, when the financier and registered sex offender was found hanging in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Manhattan.

Under a deferred prosecution agreement disclosed late on Friday, Noel and Thomas admitted to having “willfully and knowingly” filled out documents claiming they had conducted regular checks in the housing unit where Epstein was being held.

Both would serve six months of supervised release, complete 100 hours of community service, and cooperate with a probe by the U.S. Department of Justice’s inspector general, including the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death.

Prosecutors said “the interests of justice will be best served” by the agreement, which requires a judge’s approval, perhaps as soon as May 25.

Lawyers for Noel and Thomas did not immediately respond on Saturday to requests for comment. Both defendants were charged in November 2019 and have been free on bail.

Epstein’s death at age 66 was called a suicide by New York City’s top medical examiner.

It angered then-Attorney General William Barr, and prompted a management overhaul at the Manhattan jail.

Prosecutors have said that during Epstein’s final hours, Noel shopped online for furniture, Thomas looked up sports news and motorcycle sales, and both appeared to have taken naps.

Senator Ben Sasse, a Nebraska Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee and critic of the government’s handling of the Epstein case, said the public deserves an accounting of the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ failures.

“Epstein’s victims have been failed at every single turn,” Sasse said in a statement. “One hundred hours of community service is a joke–this isn’t traffic court.”

Prior to his death, Epstein had pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges.

The British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, a longtime Epstein associate, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges that she procured underage girls for Epstein to sexually abuse.

Her trial is slated to begin in November. Maxwell’s lawyers have complained that guards in her Brooklyn jail regularly shine flashlights into her cell at night, ostensibly to ensure her safety. The lawyers have said Maxwell is not a suicide risk and wants her day in court.

The case is U.S. v. Noel et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 19-cr-00830.

NEW YORK — Two jail guards who admitted to falsifying records on the night Jeffrey Epstein killed himself on their watch won a federal judge’s approval on Tuesday for an agreement to end the criminal case against them and let them avoid prison.

The defendants, Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, had been accused of falling asleep and surfing the internet rather than checking on Epstein every 30 minutes at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Manhattan.

Epstein, who had pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking charges, was found hanging in his cell on Aug. 10, 2019. New York City’s medical examiner called the financier’s death a suicide.

U.S. District Judge Analisa Torres in Manhattan told Noel and Thomas their deferred prosecution agreement “offers you a chance to avoid a criminal conviction. I trust that you’ll comply with the terms.”

Noel and Thomas will serve six months of supervised release and complete 100 hours of community service, preferably related to criminal justice.

They must also cooperate with a probe by the U.S. Department of Justice’s inspector general, including the circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death.

Both defendants admitted to having “willfully and knowingly” falsified records to make it seem they were checking on Epstein, who had been on suicide watch the previous month.

Prosecutors said Noel and Thomas actually shopped online, checked sports news, and appeared to nap for two hours each.

The probe began under then-Attorney General William Barr, who was angered that a high-profile inmate like Epstein was able to kill himself.

Management was overhauled at the Manhattan jail, which has experienced staff shortages and criticism for poor conditions.

Noel’s lawyer Jason Foy and Thomas’ lawyer Montell Figgins said their clients were happy the criminal case was resolved. They have suggested their clients were scapegoated for problems within the Federal Bureau of Prisons.

“This case should sound the alarm that the criminal justice system is in disrepair,” Figgins said. “There are rampant problems in our nation’s prison system that must be fixed.”

Epstein’s longtime associate, British socialite Ghislaine Maxwell, has pleaded not guilty to charges she procured four underage girls for him to sexually abuse, and is awaiting trial.

She has been denied bail three times and is being jailed in Brooklyn, where her lawyers said she is subjected to intrusive monitoring on a misplaced concern she might also kill herself.

The case is U.S. v. Noel et al, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 19-cr-00830.

NEW YORK — Ghislaine Maxwell on Tuesday urged a U.S. judge to throw out the criminal case alleging she procured four teenage girls for Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse, accusing prosecutors of overreaching in an effort to “get” her.

In a filing in Manhattan federal court, Maxwell’s lawyers said prosecutors waited too long to add allegations by the fourth accuser in an amended indictment filed in March, despite knowing of the allegations for more than a decade.

They also said some charges were covered by Epstein’s 2007 non-prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors, which Maxwell has unsuccessfully argued also immunized “potential” co-conspirators like herself.

The new indictment “demonstrates just how far the government is willing to go to ‘get’ Ms. Maxwell and disingenuously blame her for the crimes of Jeffrey Epstein,” Maxwell’s lawyers said.

Spokesmen for U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss in Manhattan declined to comment.

Epstein, a financier, killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Maxwell has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges in an eight-count indictment related to Epstein’s alleged abuse of three girls from 1994 to 1997, and a fourth girl from 2001 to 2004.

Prosecutors said Maxwell groomed and paid the fourth girl who, starting at age 14, gave Epstein nude massages and engaged in sex acts with him, and recruited others for erotic massages.

U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan previously denied Maxwell’s request to dismiss an earlier version of the indictment, and will consider the latest dismissal request.

The 59-year-old Maxwell has been jailed in Brooklyn since her arrest last July. Nathan has denied bail three times, saying Maxwell was a flight risk.

A trial on six charges in the latest indictment is slated to begin in November. Two perjury charges would be tried separately.

NEW YORK — Ghislaine Maxwell will remain in a New York jail after a federal appeals court on Wednesday rejected the British socialite’s latest request for bail.

The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan also denied Maxwell’s request for a hearing on what her lawyers called “horrific” confinement conditions at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. It did not explain its reasons.

Maxwell, 59, faces up to 80 years in prison if convicted over her alleged role in procuring four underage girls for the disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein to sexually abuse between 1994 and 2004.

She has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and other charges. A trial in Manhattan is slated for November.

Epstein killed himself in a Manhattan jail in August 2019 while awaiting trial on separate charges. The appeals court also denied bail for Maxwell in April.

“Ghislaine Maxwell is subjected to more grueling conditions than any other inmate” at the Brooklyn jail, her lawyer David Markus said in an email. “This is due to the Epstein effect. Because Epstein died on the jail’s watch, it has decided to torture Ghislaine. That’s wrong.”

Maxwell’s lawyers have said she cannot properly prepare for trial because of sleep deprivation, a lack of potable water, a sewage stench in her cell, an inability to meet privately with her lawyers or keep jail guards from reviewing her confidential materials, and an underpowered computer to review evidence.

A spokesman for U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss in Manhattan and a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to comment.

Maxwell’s trial judge, U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan, has rejected bail three times, calling Maxwell a significant flight risk.

How 'bulls--t artist' Jeffrey Epstein seduced Victoria's Secret CEO
A rew report by Vanity Fair details Epstein's relationship, and falling-out, with billionaire Victoria's Secret founder

Sex monster Jeffrey Epstein plotted his seduction of the billionaire founder of Victoria’s Secret with military precision, according to a new report.

Vanity Fair reports that hedge fund manager Epstein weaseled his way into the lingerie giant’s inner circle by way of pal Robert Meister.

“He was a great bulls**t artist,” Meister told the glossy mag, adding that he believes Epstein befriended him in order to gain access to his billionaire pals.

Epstein, 66, died mysteriously in 2019 in a New York jail cell while awaiting trial as a part of a wide-ranging sex trafficking probe.

With him died the mystery of where his wealth — estimated at almost $1 billion — came from.

For years, Wexner was Epstein’s only publicly-named client and it’s believed the lingerie titan was a key source of that cash.

While Wexner was never accused of any involvement in Epstein’s myriad of sex crimes, he nonetheless stepped down from the company he founded.

When Epstein was busted for soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2007, Wexner ended the relationship.

“Being taken advantage of by someone who was so sick, so cunning, so depraved is something that I’m embarrassed that I was even close to,” Wexner said in a 2019 speech.

He also later claimed that Epstein — who was long suspected of making his millions on crooked Wall St. deals — had “misappropriated vast sums of money from me and my family”.

But before Epstein could get to Wexner, he had to go through Meister and began showing up at the same Florida gym he used.

Once after a game of racquetball in 1986, Meister said Epstein told him Wexner was being ripped off.

And he, Jeffrey Epstein, would be Wexner’s “financial bounty hunter.”

Meister told Vanity Fair he soon began hearing disturbing reports about Epstein’s sexual penchant for underage girls.

Once Epstein showed up at Meister’s Big Apple apartment with five models for their sexual amusement.

“I told him, ‘Get the f–k out and I never want to see you again!’ Meister said.

“Think of whatever the worst thing anyone could do is, and Epstein did them all.”

He added: “I walked away from Epstein a long time ago, and I’ve been trying to erase him from my mind ever since.”

Another former member of Wexner’s circle, Ben Levin, said he warned his boss about Epstein.

“Epstein was trying to explain a currency trade he wanted to do. I have an MBA from Ohio State, and I didn’t understand a word the man said,” Levin said.

“I told Les, ‘Stay away from him’.”

Despite Levin telling his boss that Epstein was a massive fraud, months later the pervert showed up and announced he was in charge of Wexner’s money management.

Levin quit.

“On my last day, Epstein walked into my office and held up a piece of paper. He bragged that Les had given him power of attorney over his money. I worked for Les for seven years and I never had general power of attorney,” Levin said.

But having a rival out of the way wasn’t enough for Epstein: He set out to ruin Levin by spreading vicious rumours among the financial circles he ran in.

Levin couldn’t get a job and his wife filed for divorce, gaining custody of their three kids.

“I had a nervous breakdown. I was living out of my car for a while,” Levin said.

“Epstein ruined my life. I lost everything.”

EXCLUSIVE: Judge rules to unseal dozens of documents about Ghislaine Maxwell's personal affairs, including those that reveal her and Jeffrey Epstein's relationship with the Clintons

  • Judge Loretta Preska ruled Thursday that dozens of documents about Ghislaine Maxwell's personal affairs should be unsealed in the next two weeks
  • The judge said that unsealing the documents would not impact Maxwell's right to a fair trial in November as her lawyers have claimed
  • Among the documents will be Maxwell's efforts to quash requests from Virginia Roberts Giuffre to obtain her financial records
  • Giuffre's lawyers demanded documents from Maxwell, including 'funding received from the Clinton Global Initiative and the Clinton Foundation'
