The real question should "What was the original treaty?" & "What were the reservation's boundry lines?". If those items are up front there shouldn't have been any question on how to proceed.
Don't forget to include the theft, by the Jesuits. There lies a large part of the issue. The alliance between the powers that be and The Church, only exacerbated the issue, in years past. Which led to the Province ignoring the pleas of the Band.
How is it possible to expropiate land that is not ceded to Canada, Quebec & Oka?
Simple, get the Church to steal it first.

This is all stuff that Liberalman already knew though, which is why he hasn't corrected a flaw I through out to see if he really was as smart as he thinks he is.

And you would be referring to Pte. Cloutier and Lasagna Larocqua. Two men I've actually met. Nice spin on what Larocqua had for lunch, I just love that kind of juvenile flame bait.

I remember being at home after my classes had finished for the day and seeing this "confrontation" unfold (on CBC newsworld... I don't think CTV Newsnet had launched at that point). I'll admit I didn't understand much of why it was happening or have much sympathy for the Mohawks, but I thought Pte. Cloutier did well that day. The level of discipline he displayed in the face of the intimidation (my memory has him being spit on but he didn't flinch, give way or retaliate) being brought to him by the Mohawks was admirable.

Not hard at all, he was Ceremonial Guard.

If you look at the infamous picture, you can see he's looking dead ahead. He's not even in the confrontation, so to speak.

I love all the kudo's he's getting though. Considering his rather lack luster Military career, drug possession, lose of rank and subsiquent discharge from the Army, for a conviction of drunk driving. Ya, he's a great guy and stellar example of Canadian Soldier.

But hey, he stood his ground. Just so you know, my contempt for him, doesn't come from his following orders that day. Although I do take my hat off to him for his role in Filles sexe du Québec duex.
