FYI for those on this Thread.

I have my computer hooked up to my stereo system. I'm outside
try'n to rake my leaves. A reported Thread sets sends an Email to
my computer, and my stereo chimes loud enough for my to hear
it outside. 8O

Right now the Thread can be "Revenue Canada" or "How to cook
a Chicken." Whatever it is...I don't care if you're for or against it. I'm
just try'n to rake my lawns 'cuz it's beautiful outside. A report goes
off and I have to come back inside. If everyone debates like adults,
I can finish my yardwork and would be grateful. Thank You.:lol::lol:

You can't blame a lack of education JUST on the schools, there are a lot of factors that go into teaching our youth.

I agree there are other factors but the schools are the primary vehicle in that. Relating the familial example, my father was pretty hands off as long as grades were OK and he didn't get letters/phone calls about incomplete homework, etc.(traditional breadwinner, hardworking but not highly educated tradesman who was running his own business and concentrated on that end of things because it was what he knew/was comfortable with) while my mother was the more "cultured" influence who discussed our school work with us. I view myself as lucky because my mother was an intelligent woman who was willing to push my sister and I at times, whereas a lot of the kids I went to school with had both parents whose outlook was more like Dad's. Societally we don't tell our parents to educate their children because our massively funded (and yet always underfunded :p) education system is supposed to fill that role: we tell parents to monitor but not necessarily to even supplement it.

One big problem is with parents who have the attitude that they have no responsibility to educate their kids because that's what they pay their taxes for. It's up to the school to educate not only the pupils, but the parents too, making them realise that education is a community endeavour, with the school, teachers, parents, pupils, and other community partners all playing a role in this together.

But to be fair to the school, the Ministry of Education must also give the school the freedom to manage its own affairs to some degree, so that the school can adapt to local circumstances, otherwise the school itself is hogtied and not to blame.

Fine...yup..best thing in the world...teach ALL our kids how to kill and maim.
How did I know someone would throw out this comment?

I think I called it on page one.

And if one were to actually read through the thread, you would have noted that at no time was that to be the core of the idea. The core being servitude, a civilian arm of the Armed Forces. As in civil service. Domestic emergency etc.

You know, I was saying just that to Ron earlier. I was pleasantly surprised as to how much fun and commentary we had going on.

I also remarked inhere and with Ron, that we were sans the usual suspects tough, lol.

I was surprised tho that we were moving in the same direction.
I seriously think this could be a very good idea if it is seriously planned.
To me it would be giving the tools to the population and at the same time a mobilizing force .

Do you think 9/11 couldn't happen to us?????????

I think that's not an easy question to answer. A suicide pilot doesn't just end his life unless for a cause he believes in. So certainly, if he believed, rightly or wrongly (that's an issue for another thread), that he needed to do this to teach the US a lesson for some perceived wrong, then we'd need to find out what led him to this belief, so that we could rectify it. If it is because the US really was unjust in its foreign policy, then the answer would be to change the foreign policy. If the US was just, but that there seems to be some cultural misunderstanding, then a PR campaign might be in order to clarify the US position and correct any misconceptions.

In the meantime, border and port security is essential.

what's the point of pushing the issue that is not even dealing with what we started.
You know it will end to more name calling

Sorry, that was not my intent. Part of the wording of the original post was "Should Military training be an obligation?" and I was just responding to the accusation that it would result in teaching kids to kill etc. I have made it very clear that there are lots of other useful functions for a force be it military or otherwise and have no desire to dwell on the war aspect, except that it was brought up several times.

yes . but some rather see the darkside of thing to push thier agenda or what not. Give them feed back is pointless.
