'We are surely a kinder and gentler nation because of you'

In a rare and warm appearance, former President George H.W. Bush returned to the White House on Monday. The 89-year-old was there to hand out the 5,000th award from his "Points of Light" Foundation, but the celebration also recognized the 41st president’s legacy of charity and altruism.

He's a condescending and patronizing mutt but he knows how to score points.

George HW Bush. War hero and a man of conviction. I did not agree with all his policies, most notably the war on drugs, but he certainly was true to his convictions. Btw, little known fact, he did not support going into Iraq.

Yeah but I don't think old man Bush ever did go into Iraq.
I think his rational was that he did not have a UN madate to go into Iraq !!

I'm not a Republicsn (no, really, Zip???!!!) but I always have a lot of time for Bush Sr. He has a lot of class. Looks like he's getting on a bit now though.

As you say. 58 combat missions. Distinguished Flying Cross. Shot down.

I agreed with most of his policies, especially his notion that you have to pay your bills, even when you're the United States.

Vice-President Bush was a very good President, and more importantly, a good and decent man.

That explains why he didnt go in. Though it might have been better to have gone in during the first gulf war.

I don't have time for political dynasties like the Bushes and Clintons. They don't have the interests of the working class at heart.

The Kennedys did alright in that department. Clinton came from a poor background so he is well aware of what its like to be poor and living paycheque to paycheque.

He may have been better than his son, however he helped make the country the divided and hate filled place it is today.
