WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Sen. John McCain claims the Obama administration might be conducting a “massive cover-up” with the deadly terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans.
On CBS News’ “Face the Nation” Sunday, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee said President Obama has been incompetent with the way he has been handling the aftermath of the Sept. 11 attack.


“I don’t know if it’s either a cover-up or the worst kind of incompetence, which doesn’t qualify the president as commander in chief,” McCain said.


The Republican senator was primarily talking about statements the administration made early after the attack where U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice said the Consulate attack was a “spontaneous” event caused by the anti-Mohammed film that caused massive protests across the Middle East.

House Armed Services Committee Chair to Obama: Your Libya Remarks Sound ‘Implausible’

Rep. Howard “Buck” McKeon, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee excoriated President Obama Monday in a sharply-worded letter, telling the president that his recounting of the events surrounding the brutal terror attack on our diplomatic outpost in Benghazi that left four Americans dead, sounds “implausible.” Lawmakers have been critical of the Obama administration’s handling of the deadly siege in Libya.

According to Defense News, McKeon’s letter was catalyzed by comments made October 26 by the president during a radio appearance. In his interview, Obama maintained that he issued a series of directives immediately following the attack, including one to “make sure that we are securing our personnel and doing whatever we need to.” The statement struck a cord with McKeon, who wonders why the Obama White House would not have used its military to secure the U.S. diplomatic outpost in Benghazi.

Once Again, Romney’s Exploiting A National Tragedy For His Own Gain

Apparently, Romney didn’t learn any lessons from the criticism he received for trying to use the deaths in Libya to his political advantage, while still in the throes of a crisis, no less.

Romney’s already shooting off his mouth from the safety of the Midwest campaign trail, saying that Obama’s not doing it right and that he’d let the states respond to their own disasters, what he called the “moral” thing to do. A Romney campaign spokeswoman, Amanda Henneberg, said in an email to Bloomberg Businessweek: “Gov. Romney believes that states should be in charge of emergency management in responding to storms and other natural disasters in their jurisdictions.”

Why? Because it would be antithetical to the GOP platform to allow any federal tax dollars to go toward serving fellow Americans in need, I suppose. The unavoidable problem is this: Many states don’t have the resources or capacity to handle large-scale disasters on their own, and it would NOT be “moral” to let them try. Can you imagine New York being left to “clean up its own mess” after 9/11?

Romney has also advocated privatizing disaster relief – because if rescuing people struck by disaster shouldn’t be a for-profit enterprise, what should?
