That's OK, they can make up the profits by suing the cop union for libel.

After hearing about this that was my question.

The police and affiliated organizations - and people - jumped the gun so quick on this, CAN they be sued?

I did a three year stint at Tims and while we didn't use cleaner to wash out the coffee machines, I'm not sure how things are now. That said, I can see how cleaner could be left in the machine by mistake. Even a little bit of most industrial cleaners can make a person sick.

Did the Police issue an official statement saying that the three officers had been poisoned, or did the overzealous media sensationalize the incident?
I didn't say the police, I said the cop unions.

"By 10:45, the Detectives’ Endowment Association, a labor union for NYPD detectives, put out a statement claiming that “three of our brothers in blue were intentionally poisoned.” Police everywhere, the statement said, are “under attack by vicious criminals who dislike us simply because of the uniform we wear.”

I clicked the link and surprise! the libellous statement has been taken down!

Don't know why they bothered. There's about a ton of screenshots and other copies of it.

And yes, "intentionally poisoned" is libel.
