To quote Peter Garrett:

I pray to sense and reason

--Peter Garrett, Blue Sky Mine

Based upon the insensible and unreasonable trajectory of current global affairs, TB, I would suggest that your deities are losing their footing and their following.

Considering that the trajectory of current global affairs is at least aided and abetted, if not driven, by belief in your imaginary friends, I'll stick with sense and reason.

Sense and reason will get me a lot closer to knowing it all than mumbling prayers at an imaginary friend or studying a Really Old Book.
You're not close to anything other than smart azz know it all remarks. Keep believing that you're superior intellectually though it'll make for comfortable opinion of yourself. Pretty disappointed in your sorry azz. You like to minimize the beliefs of others because you think it's funny. Sad.

If I can minimize belief that a Big Sky Daddy will kiss away all your tears, I'd call that a public service.

Would you submit that "knowing it all" is the highest of human priorities, TB?
Nope, I was just working off what Lud presented. To be clear, I make no such submission.

Though I would point out that most monotheistic religions claim that complete understanding is one of the rewards of heaven.

Beats hell outta thinking and working, I guess.

"If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:1-13 NIV)

I would submit that love is the highest of human priorities, TB.

I rather doubt that any one priority is "the highest" for all humans, or at all times. Unless you mean "it must be because Gawd says so," in which case you're into religion, and I ain't interested. I'll pay more attention to the bible when its proclaimed adherents kill folk a little less.

Lovin' 'em to death, maybe.

Do you believe that nonbelievers will rot in hell?

*burn in hell. No time to rot.
Actually, there is no hell mentioned in the original bible. The catholic church made that up to scare ignorant and gullible people into accepting their authority. Heaven and hell are right here in this life. It all depends on your perspective on life. To me hell is avoiding life because you are afraid of being punished in death.

The synoptic gospels all mention hell, but John's gospel does not, Cliffy.

And the Gnostic gospels don't mention it at all. As far as I know, neither do the Dead Sea scrolls. You have no idea why these writings were eliminated from the bible of David Cromwell. Why did he eliminate 13 books from the original bible compiled by the Catholic Church? The KJV is a history full of political intrigue and blood shed. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the original Christian writings.

Location, Location
In a laundromat not too far from the Alamo
Sits a girl who stole my records not so long ago
And she wishes, wants, and washes out them dirty clothes
And she shuts her eyes and dreams about a one-eyed Joe
A one-eyed Joe
Car parked on a dirty road
Heaven knows the load she pulls
Couldn't stand the strain
Her saddle's in the rain

John Prine. Haven't heard that one in a long time.

In the gospel recorded by the apostle John and in the 3rd chapter, the musts are revealed:
1) "You must be born again" (v7)
2) "the Son of Man must be lifted up" (v14)
3) "He must become greater; I must become less." (v30)

Jesus didn't say those things. Those are the words of St. John. Only the words of Jesus matter to a Christian. The words of the prophets of the Bible are their personal opinions. They are just men, subject to error. Jesus was more than a man and it is He who spoke the truth, the will of God, not His own personal thoughts.
