Oh, I agree, it's not perfect.

But I don't think it's 'biased' in the sense that someone was tinkering with it deliberately to make everyone liberal. I'm sure CBC does lean a little toward the liberal side, and the Queen's Prof can say whatever he wants, but there is no direct proof showing that some eeevil liberals have an agenda to sway an insignificant percentage of voters.
That would be shown to be a false claim, by the mere fact of Liberals attributing a quote from David Sommerville to Harper.

The greater onus of proof is on the accusers to back up their fraud claim.
As has adequately been done.

Or maybe they actually believed that's where Liberals and Conservatives lie?
If they do, they aren't fit to run a country. I would say the same of the Conservatives, if they tried to tell me the Liberals were at the same position as Castro.

It's really not that far fetched.
Nice example of bias.

My grade 12 history and grade 12 English classes all went though the "vote compass" and I only know of 1 person who didn't get liberal (She got NDP). Mind you most of the people in the class, including myself, are either 17 or 18 years old and this demographic tends to lean left.

when I took the compass, I had to answer some of the questions based on the issues that that they were making reference to, if I did that it categorized me acurately. However, if I had answered some of the questions literally, then I would have been categorized in the wrong group. So, in that sense, I agree that the survey was biased.

For example, I think there was a question that asked me if I supported the idea of universal childcare? If I said yes, then I'd be a liberal, yet, in reality, I dont support the liberal solution because I believe that they will start their universal childcare program with a wrecking ball, ie they will take away Harper's $100/month. And I believe that they will destroy what we have long before they have verified that their new program is actually going to work.

In other words, a dimmer switch on a car, makes a connection with the high beams, before breaking the connection with the low beams, thereby ensuring that you aren't momentarily driving without headlights.............the Liberals haven't got a comparable solution for childcare.

The only bias I can see is the hatchet job done by the Sun Media in an attempt to smear the CBC & to advetrise their new Sun TV News channel. The fact of the matter is the only part that might be looked as guessing would be in the "social conservative" questions as no one is really sure what the Conservative agenda is on abortion, same sex marriage or euthanasia. I can and have massaged the compass to be left & right leaning both economically & socially. Give honest answers to the questions & you'll get an honest result based on the factors inputed by the designers of the compass. I agree with Retired_Can_Soldier the designers used "US NeoCon" views on the social agenda in abeyance of Cdn Conservative values.

If thats what the developers of the compass, at the U of T and CBC believe then it behooves the upper management at the CBC to look at it in the broader perspective and realize:

a) this is an entirely subjective assessment tool,
b) the developers may not be able to overcome their own bias,
c) whether intentional or not, the layout and make up of this tool DOES point to the gov't as being extremist compared to the opposition parties, a conclusion that does bring the neutrality of the tool into question
d) a publicly funded organization should not be presenting anything that has an appearance of bias without disclaimers and an alternative viewpoint, ESPECIALLY during an election campaign

This is nothing more than a free propaganda tool for the Liberal Party of Canada, brought forth by an organization that has worked hand in glove with the Liberal party for the past couple decades.
