Chavez likes Thursday nights to be national network night.

Know what that means?

You wouldn't even let your own Prime Minister do that.

ANSWER - don't you ever read anybody else's postings? Ignoring posts does not make for good dialoque. Why do you go on with these rants in the face of obvious counter-proof. It appears that you would vilify Chavez for accessing air-time while condoning the U.S. President having it at his disposal. Do not forget that the major media in Venezuela is in the hands of a man who is in opposition to Chavez and he uses that power of persuasion.

In Canada we are about to be deluged by political blitz. They take over the airwaves to their political end. Nothing I can do to stop it from happening so I slip a good movie in every so often.

I wasn't ranting. I was posting 3 links for your viewing pleasure.

And take it easy.

I am reading your posts, and sometimes it is tedious for me as well as for you to respond minutely to each point, and so some points are not responded to everytime, but we'll both get around to it.

When Chavez co-opts all the airwaves on a Thursday night, you think the all powerful press can say NO ?

Maybe you're stretching the spin too much to defend this guy at every turn. I'll grant you some things he is doing that is so much better than Venezuela's past, but not to critically (analytically) examine the guy in a more nuanced way just seems to lack balance.

The articles that examine where he's right and where he's wrong seem to have a more calm headed balance.

Answer - actually you have never responded in any way to any of the posts I have entered. You often take a small thread of the post, twist it to a different meaning and then attack what I never actually said. :(

Venezuela has many shortcomings, some of which are not being addressed by Chavez. I was often disgusted by the amount of litter there and berated people when I saw them smashing bottles on the street and such. Under the 'junk for food' campaign this is changing. There is still no policing of the billage released by oil tankers moving toward pumping docks. There has been incredible damage to the sea and shore. I found the people of Venezuela to have little appreciation for their national history. Not much change there. I was very upset on seeing the landgrabs in Amazonia, the distruction of the forests and the abuse of the few remaining Aboriginal tribes. Now restraints have been put on logging, Amazonia is starting to be appreciated for its diversity and the Aboriginals are beginning to get some notice and are getting some services and protection. But there is much to do in these areas. There remains a contempt by the police and elements of the military of the common folk and in providing proper service without corruption. Much of this is a holdover from the old regime but Chavez must move to bring these organizations under rule of law. He is being very cautious in this matter for obvious reasons.
There are many more areas but I will try not to dominate discussion.
