Harper added $150 billion to the National Debt.

Spin it any way you want to.

Oh I see. So the fair way to evaluate a government's economic performance ignores the actual world economic circumstances during which they were in charge? Someone who rules during boom years is to be judged exactly the same as someone who rules during a worldwide recession? Have I got that right?

Good defense of the Ontario NDP.

Are you saying Harper created the world financial crisis?

You do know his recession was well after that, right?

Of course you do, but you hate facts.

Harper wanted to deregulate the banks in the late 90s, just like Blair and Bush did,

Guess where banking deregulation took every economy that tried it?

Thank **** Harper wasn't in charge and able to flush the Canadian economy down the toilet - because 2008 could have been a lot worse for us.

I know you probably don't understand your own cite, but when it refers to Canada's public debt it means ALL government debt from all levels. It's not something that simply represents the feds. The provinces and cities are in there too. And all the provinces were running big deficits through that period.

Ok - then do you prefer this graph?

Federal Debt (Accumulated Deficit)

Canada did suprisingly well during that crisis. Then Harper ****ed it up. Too bad he always listened to the social conservatives instead of the fiscal conservatives. He'd probably still be Prime Minister.

Well, since Harper was one of the social conservatives it would be hard to ignore them.

Canada was saved from economic devastation because our banks run the show.

Had they been deregulated (as Harper advocated) we would have been ****ed too.

The fact is that we just never had much of the sub prime lending.

The thing you have to understand about that graph was that in order to turn that curve and reverse the trend the Liberals needed to be in complete power - which they were in the 1990s - and what they did resulted in them getting destroyed in the polls.

We may never see a government with that much power and confidence again - and if we do I doubt they will want to spend all their political capital reversing the debt given what happened the last time.

0nly $113 billion away from balancing the books.

What joke.
Really, if you are so worried about debt why are you not fighting your own governments spending? After all you might actually have an effect on that file .
