Sir David Attenborough, the world famous British naturalist and TV presenter, met the King as they both attended the World Premiere of ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’, in which the veteran broadcaster explores the importance of ocean health for the future of the planet.

Attenborough (the brother of the actor Richard Attenborough) turns 99 on 8th May and has been hosting wildlife documentaries since 1954.

He was knighted TWICE by Queen Elizabeth II - in 1985 and in 2022, the year of her death.

And he's still going strong in 2025 with his latest nature documentary...

Did Attenborough shower for this?

I've never met him. When my mother gave birth to me on 25th July 1981 at St Mary's Hospital in Manchester the hospital menus had a picture of Prince Charles and Diana Spencer on their front covers for the upcoming Royal Wedding on 29th July (my mum was 23 years old at the time and very pretty. And that's not me being biased. I've seen photos of her from then). So the nearest I've ever got to Royalty was the day I was born.

And when did you meet the King?

St Mary? A Catholic boy are ya?

I have amazing pictures of Elizabeth II. No meet and greet but still just a 3m away.

My mom and my aunts met Liz and Charles in 1980ish. The Queen and Prince had full on Canadian pioneer dinner at United Services Institute (aka Ukrainian Sisters Institute to those in the know). They ran that kitchen for USI for 50 years.

Both Monarchs waddled into the kitchen to give their respect to my matriarchy.

Attenborough was born with that golden voice. Like Morgan Freeman, he could say that 2 plus 2 is five and we'd all believe him because he said it in that extremely credible tone.
