China in China,
We have set in motion irreversible forces. We have polluted the sky, the waters, everything. Nature's laws know no reward, only punishment. The reward is only that you are in harmony with nature. The whole problem started when man decided that the whole universe was created for his exclusive enjoyment. We have superimposed the notion of evolution and progress over nature. Our mind—and there are no individual minds, only mind—which is the accumulation of the totality of man's knowledge and experience, has created the notion of the psyche and evolution. Only technology progresses, while we as a race are moving closer to complete and total destruction of ourselves and the world. Everything in man's consciousness is pushing the whole world, which nature has so laboriously created, towards destruction. There has been no qualitative change in man's thinking; we feel about our neighbors just as the frightened cave man felt towards his. The only thing that has changed is our ability to destroy our neighbor and his property.Violence is an integral part of the evolutionary process. That violence is essential for the survival of the living organism. You can't condemn the hydrogen bomb, for it is an extension of the policeman there and your desire to be protected. Where do you draw the line? You can't. We have no way of reversing the whole ,dam thing.Any ideas ?

Under a Lone Palm
:-|The entire universe was created for humans. Judging by the results you have observed I think the creator(s) will be dumping the beaker before long. Or they may let the whole thing ferment and kill the harmful agents. Either way aultruism will not triumph over greed and the path we are now on will just be a result for the creator(s) to analyse.

Your initial post in this thread expressed the way I've felt about humanity for some time. Despite all the ideology, religions, philosophic inquiry, scientific analysis, humanity has failed to embrace reality.

Artificial "values" predominate, with the self-centeredness and petty-mindedness of an insecure frightened biped cowering in ignorance. We have recognized/discovered the cycle of life on this planet and chosen death over it. We have taken primitive biological impulses and elevated them to rationales for fear and hatred. There can be no doubt regarding the choices mankind has made, human history isn't a chronicle of extended hands to help the starving the devastated and the weak, it is the record of a species that has ripped the earth apart in the name of greed, a species that has created institutions to justify hatred and discrimination, the chronology of a species unable and unwilling to achieve peaceful co-existence. What could have been paradise has instead been converted to "commodity". "Ownership" is of greater importance to humankind because once "ownership" is established and accepted, everything that follows can be legitimized.

Because one group "owns" the means to develop resources and is prepared to kill anyone opposing this "ownership", humanity starves in great numbers. Because one group declares their philosophy and their "beliefs" superior, they can then use this same philosophy and these "beliefs" to marginalize, deprecate and scorn all others. These credoes philosophies and covenants with each other permit one group to discrimnate against others to achieve power and influence for some while maintaining injustice and imbalance for others.

Male human beings have treated female human beings with contempt and disdain for generations of mankind. Color and body morphology will serve as justification for hatred and fear. Those enjoying a bounty of essential components of this earth will strive to ensure that this unearned and undeserved advantage will be used to foster deprivation and second class "citizenship" for all others.

Humanity simply isn't worthy of any concern since it has elected to end its own existence and efforts to achieve this early extinction are the fabric and body of human history. War and conflict, hunger and destruction, little to no acknowledgement of the fagility and vulnerability of all life before the "superiority" of the naked ape.

Humanity disgusts me.

Hoooooooly Mikey.

This is the problem with sweeping generalizations. Hey guys it's Sunday morning here in Canada. The sun is shining. Global warming is giving us a gloriously hot day. The trees are a magnificent colour. My coffee tastes good. China I know it is night there... but hope ya had a good day.

Are we destroying our planet? Maybe.*shrug* Oooooooh well, at least for human life we may be. I am one tiny individual doing my tiny little part to ensure my footprint isn't quite as large as it might be. We were never going to be a paradise because each vision of paradise is different. And there has always been man vs. nature. Nature is not kind to man. She is vast and powerful and does her own thing. As she is still doing now. Once we are gone, it will not take her long to heal herself. So for now, I am going to enjoy my existence here because I do have my own mind.

Am I connected to your mind? Yes I do believe in Jung's collective unconscious. But we are not one huge massive blob of evil. We are not "Borg". We are individuals that also have great power. The mind is yet unknown. It is still in it's caveman beginnings. There are heroes yet present among us I might venture to say, in each of us.

Dispair and deafeatism will not correct the problems of the world. I however offer a ten week self help programe in BPM (benevolent planetary management) run from the first hot day of spring to the second week in October every leap year. The course includes skill sets absolutly necessary to cope with todays orb decay, lying about drunk on the cool moss during daylight, cannibis appreciation (advanced), minor crime and general disregard for authority (except nature),free-hand nose picking and basket smashing, these are only a few of the activitys that have made remarkable changes in the lives of those overly concerned with the condition of the illsphere. Contemplate that it may not be the planet we're worried about, but #1 again.
