Caught it at SaveOn? Take a pic and show us the clipped dorsal.

That's a small fish. I have a few steelheads in my freezer that range from 15 to 20lbs.

As senior I guess you've learned to live with the trash.

Well if you are going to be here, I'll have to learn to put up with trash. Now bugger off
and play with the other kids.

5 mins from my retirement property that pays me a $10K a month draw. Semi-retirement at 46 allows me to enjoy it at it's fullest. You're welcome to use my cabin to fill your freezer with bush meat and non-hatchery fish stocks.

And not a single cracked panhandler for hundreds of miles.

Oh. I forgot to mention the 300+ days of sunshine and 7 square miles of lawn to mow.

The Golden Years indeed. Too bad I have to wait another 14 years to get 20% off groceries on Tuesdays.

I love Nanaimo. I've found it to be friendlier then Victoria for the most part. It's definatley a more relaxed style then here on the mainland.

I sometimes think about moving back to the island. It would be nice not to have to worry about coyotes with our dogs.

Maybe one day...

It is SK. Thats why there isn't crackhead and jib rat panhandlers and homeless lurking in the trees.

Which part of Surrey are you in? Whalley? Guildford? Newton?

Really? I thought Surrey had always been...hard (for lack of a better word)

WHalley is better now then when I first moved here in 1999. It's mostly contained to a single street for 2 blocks. What doesn't fit there has moved to Newton.

This sort of activity (drug use and abuse) goes on in every city just not as visually accessible as what can be seen in DTES or Whalley. In Victoria it was kept to certain apartment buildings or under cover of night downtown.

Mid to late eighties brought rapid change. Wednesday in Whalley was cheap beer at Ponco and Lefty's but cocaine and grow house swept in like crazy. Then crystal meth hit early ninties and another slide down.

It'll be sad to see Coquitlam Town Center fall the same way when the train opens it to the the rest of the city.

I did. 8 years of vitamin D depletion did it's damage and the coast is no place to raise a healthy child. I'll admit it's a nice place to be but it's not that nice to live there because the people really suck. There is zero "community" everybody is from somewhere else, 75% of everyone is stoned on something and to top it off, everyone is a hypocrite.

I spent 2/3 of my life in BC and you know what? I used to do the samething as you, klinging to the weather as a way to justify living somewhere that really sucks.

b.c. people are very outgoing and positive thinking, definitely doesn't suit you, good thing you left.

ever heard of vitamin D, so easy.

i would rather take vit. D and be happy and warm, than not take it, and freeze to death, and not want
to go outside because of the cold, then flood out in the summer, and be eaten by large mosquitoes and
giant flies.
i've been thru that a few times trying to have a vacation in northern b.c. in the sunshine with big
welts, and trying to dig our vehicle out of the gumbo.

Wussy. It only takes a week to acclimatize then it all feels the same. I feel sorry for ya.

You're missing out on 99.9% of Canada. You're paininted into a 1000sq km box with other 2.5 Million people who live in fear of each other.

I would love to see Churchill Manitoba and check out the polar bears.
and
Newfoundland and attempt to understand the locals while sipping a pint at the local pub there.
and
NWT and see the northern lights, do some camping.
and
Sasketchewan and the fields. Watch the grain sway in the breeze and watch a dog run for days.
and
Quebec city, and Montreal, the beautiful architecture
and
Nova Scotia and cabot trail...

I can't think of any where in Canada that doesn't have something I want to see or do...

Why take when your body makes it with sunlight.

The rail line to Churchill runs through my farm. It's quite the slow long ride but well worth it. It's weird. The train will stop in the middle of no where and people will emerge out of the woods to get mail, groceries, snowmobiles, barrels of fuel, furniture or get on or off.

wow, that just sounds so quaint. Like going back in time. Watching it would be like seeing into the past. Way too cool.

I've never ridden a train and I know I have a completely romanticized notion about it, but I still want to. I want to read while zipping along, here the engine, have a few too many drinks in the bar carriage. Get off at some remote location for a couple of days and then head back home. I think I'd want to even buy special clothes for the event.
