I wonder if she'd try to bar a Muslim event. What do you think?

As they should.
Now as long as no laws are passed giving 'religious' persons of any stripe preference over 'secular' persons then all is good.
For instance, a law that says secular persons must pay for foot baths for a religion. Or furthermore, underwrite the operation of a religion by exempting it from taxes.
The religious of the world should start paying their fare share. Maybe we wouldn't need their charities anymore if they actually payed taxes instead of building giant churches.
If they were put on equal ground with other tax paying citizens there would likely not be this kind of hateful backlash.
Privilege breads contempt so it is time to treat religions equally, no hate, no privilege, just equality.

Fancy.

Why are churches tax exempt?

Because they don't retain their earnings. In order to have tax exempt status, they need to be registered with Canada Revenue Agency. And they need to comply with a whole lot of regulations as well in order to maintain their charitable status.

A registered charity, in Canada anyway, is predicated that, after select allowable expenses (like wages, rent, etc), all charities must disburse donated funds (and it has to be a majority of their donations) to support whatever their 'cause' (or purpose) is. In the case of a church, it would be funding the church and it's services and programs in the community, like food drives and what not.

You can look up and see any charity registered on the CRA website as well as view their Charity Information Return filings.

Hospitals are for anyone to use regardless of religion.
Their operating budget comes out of your pocket and mine so no.

Why are churches tax exempt?

Because many moons ago the church controlled the people.
When the population started to acquire wealth they desired to control themselves.
In concession to the church for continuing the manipulation the population in favour of the wealthy they were given special status so they could retain some power.

Right right. Anyone. Even if 1 in 6 patients are currently parked in Catholic Hospitals. If it weren't for their charitable status and top ups from the Church, their would hospitals closed in places where provinces try to cut back because public funding formula isn't enough but they stay open.

Be sure to get in on your local hospital foundation dream home lottery. Maybe you'll luck out like me and at least win a blu-ray.

I have an idea. Maybe churches could pay taxes.

.@G_Anderson1 what would your hero, @BobRaeMP, do? He wouldn't attack Christians in the first place. He'd apologize. https://twitter.com/g_anderson1/status/203945863318487040 …
