My daughter's cool find

She's totally thrilled.

While walking down her street, she found an old steamer trunk someone was throwing out. So she and her boyfriend lugged it home and cleaned it up and she called me to tell me about it.

I happened to be at my computer while we talked so every time she came up with a detail I researched it. Apparantly the trunk still had port stickers on it. The passenger's name and the name of the ship and the date of sailing. From that we were able to trace that Mr Cain was aboard the Sylvania from Liverpool to Halifax in 1959. A simple white pages search located someone with the same initials on her street, likely the son of the original owner if you take into account the neighbor's age.

So I printed out the history of the ship for her...unfortunately it was sold for scrap in 2004.

Her love of history thrills me to no end. She is a skilled genealogist in her own right and is often very helpful when I'm off somewhere to do research. Not bad for a 20 year old high school drop out.
