Who knows!! They are in Victoria and as of the last news (one hour ago)no one knows yet what country they are from. All they are telling is that they wanted to come to Canada. We watched pics. of them last night on TV. As the news states, they all appear to be healthy young men. I have a hunch that it won't be long until they are on a slow boat home. There was some talk about them being from Sri Lanka. I guess that would probably be more like leaving on a jet plane rather than a slow boat. Sounds like they arrived on a slow boat.
I think we should make room for the occasional, desperate, genuine refugee but these boats should always be seized and the passengers sent right home. Invariably we find out that they paid something like ten or twenty thousand dollars each to the crooked ship owners. These people are trying to by-pass our immigration system and get themselves to the head of the line with money.

Let's get this straight. There are provinces who are advertising overseas for immigrants but when they get here by any means necessary they get turned away by the feds?

Spade - No comparision - also Sri lanka has 250 -300,000 Tmails in supposed resettlement camps - Should we take them all - Perhaps some would marrry the girls from Tims and solve Petros problem of single women. The only thing we have is a failed system to quickly address illegal refugees -

However, because India, like Canada, was part of the British Empire, Canadian authorities did not pass exclusion laws explicitly targeting those of Indian origin. The Imperial authorities in London had noted Indian resentment when Australia enacted immigration restrictions implicitly designed to restrict non-European immigration in 1901, based on similar legislation in South Africa. New Zealand had passed similar restrictive legislation in 1899.
When Canada started making provisions to block immigration from India, London warned it to be cautious in its approach and to be aware that its actions might inflame nationalist fervour in India. With this in mind, Canadian immigration authorities decided to indirectly halt Indian immigration to the country.
The government’s first attempt to restrict immigration from India was to pass an order-in-council on Jan. 8, 1908, that prohibited immigration of persons who "in the opinion of the Minister of the Interior" did not "come from the country of their birth or citizenship by a continuous journey and or through tickets purchased before leaving their country of their birth or nationality." In the Edmonton area many trucking companies during the boom brought in uite a few Philipino drivers - paid them the same as everyone else - many applied thru the channels for landed immigrant staus and know many I know are bringing their families here.
At many time I see quite a few Philipino ladies brought here under the same program.
Wendy's in Regina and Brandon are being sued by a group of Phiilipno girls who wee recruited to come here and offered good pay but things didn't work that way.
