Kids in school are taught to say NO to drugs.

The kid and his Father did the right thing. The kid was being subjected to an illegal substance. THAT is child abuse. The Mother refused to do anything about it. THAT is child abuse. Period. There is no grey area here. Pot is an illegal substance. Unless, of course, you all are advocating that we teach our kids that you obey some laws but not others, and it is up to the individual to determine which laws they need to follow and which laws they don`t.

During alcohol prohibition, the same argument could have been made about alcohol. Imagine taking a child away from their parents over a 6 pack of beer or a bottle of wine.

I suppose the parents could have smoked outside, but because of the marijuana prohibition law, smoking outside increases the risk of getting busted compared to smoking it discreetly inside the home.

Marijuana prohibition laws cause more harm than marijuana itself, which indicates a problem with our marijuana prohibition law.

I imagine Christmas and birthdays will be awkward from now on...

No, the child is arround illegal activity in that case, not ACTUALLY being subjected to an illegal substance. In this case, he is being made to inhale an illegal substance against his will. He had every right to have his wishes to not be subjected to it heard.
