Interesting article. When I lived in China, I found that even today, the Chinese people dread a repeat of the 'hundred years of humiliation.' That period of history is strongly emphasized in public-school history classes and the Communist regime never loses a chance to remind its people of that period whenever it needs to galvanize public support for tougher policies whether in trade or military development.

Yep.

Even the British journalists of the time criticized the UK's actions and even some British MPs spoke out forcefully against it as a blight on the UK's history.

They say that history is written by the victors.

Sadly, in the case of the Opium Wars, history was written by the losers.

Well, at least the Chinese keep reminding their population of what happened in the past whereas Canada is schizophrenic in that on one hand we want to erase the past and the other, the past keeps wanting to "guilt" us all for what happened 50+ years ago. Seems we can't make up our minds and move on to a better future without one or the other happening. Weird!

Which one, there were several. What do you have on the one where the opium was coming from Egypt into Europe for the Royals and 'others' and the RCC did a fake outrage and by the end that false flag only the Royals and the RCC Clergy could get the best stuff and the dregs were sold to 'the others' at black market prices. There is surprising little on the details of how that went down and how many innocents were killed to advance that program.

Then, if you want, we can explore how many addicts the EU Royals created in China as the first move in a covert war to 'keep the competition distracted'. Make it as long as you like and many pics would be great. Thanks in advance, I'm a bit busy trying to get some real first aid to some people that are lab rats.

Tower of London stuff on an industrial scale. They are probably still doing it at home to so , . . . careful.

Define 'witness for the defense' for me? If something is not investigated or the report is bogus no charges are laid let alone some criminal trial that spells out the details of the crime somebody goes to jail. In the case of Baffin Correctional Center that should be the jail they are sent to. When an inspector says the water is safe and then will not drink it himself he doesn't have any faith in that report.

What works 500 years ago doesn't always be the best solution. I'm fine with 1% of the population to be smart enough to be the 'pathfinders' as long as they are aware that they are setting up something that will be an inheritance for them rather than just that one small group is allowed to move forward so the ones that helped them to do the exploring now become the enemy like all the ones they met while exploring the globe for the first time.
