Nah, Nascar was worried she wasn't going to be enough of a sociopath for his tastes, anyway.

He will be peeved when he finds out they're putting George McGovern up instead, though.

McGovern would be great. It would certainly piss the neo-cons off.

This Miers thing is yet another indication that the Bush regime is failing.

Harriet Miers was a victim of reciprocity. I knew it was coming.
First, in the power struggle, you offer something unacceptable,
and then you offer the thing you really wanted in the first place.
The other party feels obligated to be fairer the second time around, and the original person gets what they wanted. Let's see who that is.

Miers was offered because George Bush chooses his appointees based on cronyism. He pushed too far this time, and they shut him down. If it wasn't for his many problems right now, all his own damned fault, Miers would have gotten the gig. That she was forced out is a sign that Georgie's star is blinking out. With any luck at all, when it blinks for the last time, he'll be hauled from the White House chained to the rest of the criminals in his administration.

I don't think so, percy - the President's choice was forced to back down because of objections from within his own party. That's unprecedented, and I doubt Bush deliberately set out to be undermined in this way. He's fast becoming a lame duck, and if Rove is indicted tomorrow, he'll be as good as done for. The Democrats can smell blood - even if he manages to come up with a candidate that the right approve of, the Democrats will oppose it.

It will be someone slightly to the right of Attilla The Hun - when your own "natives are restless", you have to throw them one big juicy bone.

Well, factor this in. Miers' local newspaper (cir. 3M) called out to the general public - her own community - to send in anything bad about her. Anything. A poor choice. A bad marriage. A parking ticket. Not one person could find anything wrong with Miers. Not even one tiny little thing. A sterling work record and life.

Was a truly good quality person drummed out of the nomination because of "perceived" cronyism? Could be.

Miers was an unknown to the fundies and they feel Bush owes them bigtime for their support. They want someone who understands that repaying a political debt is more important than counting in the votes of 45,000 disenfranchized Floridians. Like Renguist.
