Apparently, what attracts women more than a great physique or an attractive face could well be a deep voice, say researchers from Canada and the USA. Men with deep voices are also much more likely to have more children than men who do not have deep voices, the researchers say.

I also read, in a real academic study, that men with 'manly' jobs are more likely to have more male offspring than men who hold less masculine jobs. It also said that men with manely jobs who are exposed to things that lower testosterone levels are likely to have less male off spring then their counter parts who are not exposed to those same testosterone lowering 'things' ie: alcoholics. I guess the overall point of the study is that manley men tend to have more male offspring then prissy office workers - statistically of course.

Interesting. When you listen to radio announcers the guys and women all have deep mellow voices. It is sometimes interesting to see what they look like and frequently a surprise. I associate a deep mellow voice with someone who is extremely attractive looking. Quite often, it just ain't so.

What a large pile of hooey; probably co-written by the IPCC. It really all depends on how horny you and your mate are. My father always sings in the tenor section of the choir and fathered seven children. I suppose I would have had more siblings had he been a basso-profundo.

Walter, there are exceptions to every rule. No need to get your knickers twisted, I hear that can actually raise the pitch of a man's voice.

Myself, the songs I sing best are Johny Cash.

S'called "odd news" for a reason, Walter.

I don't have a particularly bassy voice, although not a soprano, (not the hood) either, yet we had 2 boys, and one girl. And that was like, without even raisin a sweat eh. Well, me deer one might differ on that, eh.

After the second boy, all the lads at work said, "keeper up there", Nugger, go for a few more. Keepin it up was not a problem with me, (way back then), but me deer said "no more" . Actually she said........."Are you right out of yer @#%$## mind???" , and ran off to have her tubes tied.

So, yeah, it's a load of crap eh. Basso profundo indeedo. I spat on their cojones. HA!!

:naka:healthy sperm, healthy mind..............take your pick.

(you can have a lot of daddies, but jist one mamma)

Hmmm... I should have lots of grandbabies in my future then. My son had/has such a deep voice (it seems to be more appropriately suited as he ages, he's 6 now) that the woman who does the speech screening for school admission made me get a doctor's exam to ensure there wasn't something wrong with his vocal cords.

There was also the 'study' going around that said men who worked with computers had more female offspring. At work that seemed to be the case. In my group, my son was the first male child to anybody working there.

You can do anything with statistics.

My son is the first male grandchild born on either side of our families... one male out of 8 granchildren. And none of the men work around computers. It kind of makes me wonder what's up with the water!

I saw a recent study that said a woman was statistically more likely to have a boy as a second child if she gained a lot of weight after the first.

It did also stress that women should not intentionally become obese in order to have a boy. lol

There was a story going around many years ago that if you had more girls than boys, you were probably more sexually active - something to do with the fact that boys were made when the moment of fertilization was within a 24 hour period of ovulation. Girls seemed to be the norm when fertilization occurred outside the critical period. Farmers seemed to agree. If you look at IVF, there seems to be more boys born than girls and the people doing IVF closely follow the ovulatory cycle.

Oh well, it's probably just one more urban legend.

I heard something like that. The idea goes that one type of sperm swim faster while the other type of sperm swim slower but survive longer. It's called the timing method of sex determination and there is lots of infor about it on google. I am not sure ho well it is backed up by research.

That's interesting. If there are more boys than girls in IVF it could also be due to protocols that include PGD which can identify the sex before implantation. PGD is fairly new in Canada but has been used in the US for years. Technically sex selection is illegal in Canada and in many other regions but patients and professionals still talk to each other and share results.

the IVF factor might also arise due to the varying weights. Female and male sperm not only swim at different speeds, but also have different weights. There was some scandal I recall, protests, about some IVF clinics centrifuging the semen in order to force, I believe the male to the bottom, female to the top. Parents could then attempt to select a sex with some success.

Perhaps the docs are drawing their specimens for IVF from the top of the cup too often. lol.

Why not let parents select the sex if their is a shortage. If there is more men then woman then let people select sex only if they want to have a girl. An excess number of males results in agressive behavior in males.

I would rather leave the balance of the sexes up to nature rather than mankind. We tend to get a lot wrong with disastrous results when we screw with the food chain and we are after all, merely a link in it.

Well that would certainly solve our problem with the Chinese taking over the world. I suspect they all would chose male.;-)
