If the PCs were wise, rather than promising to no carbon tax, they'd promise deep cuts instead and simply present no carbon tax as a preference as long as they can pay the debt. This would make fiscal conservatives like me believe them more. If they succeed in their deep cuts, then no carbon tax. If they fail, then carbon tax is the responsible solution.

Personally though, I'd rather a carbon tax in exchange for lower taxes elsewhere, maybe in income tax. A revenue-neutral carbon tax.

That's just it. Most people who have an issue with the carbon tax would likely not care nearly as much if the carbon tax was actually revenue neutral.

If it actually showed a purpose or can foreseeably make a difference I can agree, in it's present form it's just a tax. Sask. was told no to an exemption for their carbon capture plant that is actually making a difference and paid for by taxpayers. The reason given is that no revenue will be passed down to struggling alternative energy companies and the poor, wtf, even though Sask. Gov. promised to be 50% powered by alternative energy in the very near future. Tell me this isn't a money grab

Governments exist to get bigger. As they grow, they become the worst energy and money wasters. Since governments use taxation, we are left to feed them.

We must ensure that government does not waste or become too fat.

Carbon taxes are gluttony. Raking in as much money as possible under the guise of being envoronmentally responsible. It is a sham, and government will say anything to keep the money flow going.
