Any events such as this one are nothing but an extravagent waste of precious fuels and should be banned altogether to promote green living.

I've followed Formula one racing since Jim Clarke was driving. Formula one is the height of automotive technology. At one time they lowered the maximum displacement for turbocharged engines to 1.5 liters hoping to slow the cars down a bit. It wasn't long before some of these little fifteen hundred cc engines were producing 1200 hp for qualifying. I would think it was probably oil money that stole Montreal's Grand Prix.

Oh and Btw, There will be an inaugeral Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi, the same year Montreal loses the event they've held every year for over forty years.

Its hard to believe Montreal had the race for over 40 years! Certainly doesn't seem that long.

The Canadian Grand Prix (known in French as the Grand Prix du Canada) is an auto race held in Canada since 1961.[1] It has been part of the Formula One World Championship since 1967. It was first staged at Mosport Park in Bowmanville, Ontario as a sports car event before it alternated between Mosport and Circuit Mont-Tremblant, Quebec after Formula One took over the event. After 1971 safety concerns led to the Grand Prix moving permanently to Mosport. In 1978 the Canadian Grand Prix moved to its current home on Île Notre-Dame in Montreal.
In 2005, the Canadian Grand Prix was the most watched Formula One GP in the world. The race was also the third most watched sporting event on the planet, behind the first place Super Bowl XXXIX and the UEFA Champions League Final.[2]
On October 7, 2008, it was announced by the FIA that the Grand Prix would be dropped from the Formula One calendar for 2009, having been previously included in the Provisional Calendar.[3]

Outside of the actual racing it always amazes me how the FIA brings in regs to slow the cars down and they just keep getting faster and faster.....brilliant minds at work. The cars are currently limited to 18,000 rpm.....18,000 and that's limited.8O

They are back to over 1100 horsepower. The RPM limit was partly to increase the life of the half million dollar engines. The sport is just getting too expensive. All the countries currently having a place on the formula one calendar have some form of government participation.

......except Canada.

That's going to change.

Sure the horsepower is less but the speed isn't. When I go to these things I always get seats at the end of a straight, watching them come down to that corner not believing they will stop in time just blows my mind every time I see it. This past summer was at Sliver Stone and as you know it was wet weather, I was sitting at Stowe corner and seeing them come down that straight at 200 plus miles an hour with a huge rooster tail was nothing less than awesome.

I've watched only three Grands Prix live. I watched the 1961 race at Monza when Von Tripps collided with Clarke and was thrown from his car and killed. Von Tripps's car went into the crowd and killed about a dozen people and injured dozens more. That same year I watched Stirling Moss win in a Lotus at Monte Carlo. A couple years later I watched Jim Clark win the Dutch Grand Prix in 1963. Lotus was just about unbeatable in that year when the car didn't break.

Silver Stone is one of the races I would love to see live. That race shows most aspects of the formula one car's performance.

This was my second time too bad it's moving to Donnington after next year, which doesn't make sense, it's a bike track.:?:

I've also been to Monaco, Montreal, Indy, Monza and France.

I'm going to Malaysia next year for sure.
