The issue is that the university believes that their health plan should not cover contraceptives,

.. And?

It's a private Uni, isn't it? If I'm not mistaken, they have the ability and right to engage whatever policies that they want as long as it doesn't contravene the law.

and apparently, to argue against that makes one a **** or a ***** who wants the goverment to pay you to have sex.

No, it makes Fluke and her ilk hypocrites and abject morons if they can't see clear on spending money to deal with their own personal and individual health concerns.

In absence of them wanting to assume any form of fiscal responsibility for their own health and lifestyle - yeah, they are looking to get subsidized sex.

End of story.

If ordinary American Catholics ignore their "celibate" male patriarchy on sexual matters (cf. contraception), why is this an issue? I thought, according to Vatican 2, the people were the Church, not the hierarchy. Gawd, American politics is complicated. Obama is criticized for not kowtowing to a lobby group who does not even represent those they claim are their flock.

If, in fact, the flock acquiesced, then American "Catholic" institutions would not have an issue with insurance policies. After all, "women" (May the Gods preserve us!) would not have to be protected against their frailties.

And uppity women would not have to be told to STFU. By the way, by "men" who "champion" free speech.

Then, I suppose that this decision is up to 'ordinary American Catholics' isn't it?

Afterall, the people are the Church and from what I've seen, there is no massive outcry from 'ordinary American Catholics' to submit to having their rights stepped all over, so you can appreciate that your allusion towards 'the hierarchy' and the 'ordinary American Catholics' appears to be a self-serving form of your interpretation of Catholicism as opposed to reality.

Which brings us back to the issue of why Obama is wading into the fray... Does Obama speak on behalf of all 'ordinary American Catholics' or is he infringing on the fundamental rights of 'ordinary American Catholics'?.

Nothing complicated about it Spade, it has to do with the federal arm of the government squashing the rights of a religious organization.

I missed the part where she didn't want to assume any form of fiscal responsibility for her health, and wanting to get subsidized sex. She was arguing that contraception should be covered by the drug plan, like it is for many others.

You are saying that nobody is allowed to argue for rule changes?

Really? You didn't read the portion of her testimony where she pissed and moaned about spending up $3000 over the course of her law degree for contraception?

Hell, she can wander down to the local pub and buy 'em in the bathroom for a buck - and $3000 would get her 4 years worth of condoms, presuming that she was hopping in the sack twice a day, each and every day of the year.

You gotta wonder where she finds the time to attend class or study.

She was arguing that contraception should be covered by the drug plan, like it is for many others.

She can argue that Bran Flakes be subsidized by insurance under the guise of the health of her bowels for all I care... She still has put a price on her own health, that apparently only has value as long as she doesn't have to pony-up the dough.

You are saying that nobody is allowed to argue for rule changes?

... Or how about she argue that people take responsibility for their own lives and not depend on Big Brother to coddle them along through life.

That asking too much?

Not "nobody", just women.

You are sooooo lucky.

I wish that Obama was subsidizing me each time I buy a box of condoms.

You really have to wonder at you obsession with her sex life, but if it keeps you happy, go for it.

Funny... Considering that you are prepared to support the gvts callous disregard and trammpling of Georgetown University's rights and those of all Catholics - I'd say that it is you that has an extraordinary interest in Fluke's sex life.

Planning a celebratory trip down to DC to congratulate Fluke with some gvt issue rubbers are we?

Perhaps you should buy a brain somewhere.......

The gov't is "inflicting a belief" on the Catholic Church.

The church is NOT forcing anyone to attend their university, so they are NOT inflicting anything on anybody.

Excuse me, it is not the "Church" but a University that is supposed to teach "academics". Religion does not belong in a University, except for comparison of all beliefs. It is supported by tuition fees and grants and I would bet my bottom dollar not a penny from the church. I would not be surprised to learn that the church received monies from the university!!

Universities are not there to force Catholism on the rest of the country!! Get real bud. I've got the brain, but you seem to have simply inherited a bunch of muscle between the ears. They are supposed to educate, not indoctrinate!!

No just trying to impress on the indoctrinated, they do not have the right to dictate their own, twisted sexual and moral beliefs on others. Why are you focussed on Fluke's sexual life?? She can afford her lifestyle, it is about those unfortunate couples that slip through the cracks.

You do realize that for every unplanned female pregnancy there is or should be a male stuck with the cost of raising an unwanted child. DNA has given women a great deal of leverage in regards to child support these days. Inspite of all this anti-feministic rhetoric, it still takes two persons to make a baby. The days of belief in virgin births has passed.

I have just read that Karzai (May Allah be praised) has supported, in law, Afghanistan's religious body's declaration that men have primacy in their society and women a secondary role. Where have I heard this over here before?

Au contraire... She is indoctrinated though and possibly the worst kind of indoctrination going. Ms Fluke is under the distinct impression that she bears no responsibility for herself.

I was just reading about a cat stuck in a tree... But that is an aside, I do very much enjoy the very broad extrapolations that you derive from select information... It is a fascinating study into the psyche of those that feel the need to impose their values on entire societies.

You mean equality for both men and women in a secular state, without religious interference? That value? Why, thank you, Captain!
