Liberals have hard time finding caucus room

Old habits die hard.

After years of being on the governing side of the House of Commons, Liberal MPs made their way to a caucus meeting today in Ottawa.

Many, including former justice minister Irwin Cotler, gravitated toward the government caucus room, only to be directed by security to the Opposition's traditional meeting place.

Cotler appeared befuddled as he tugged on a locked door, before realizing that his colleagues were in a room across the hall.

Inside that room, Opposition Leader Bill Graham tried to lift the spirits of his colleagues, predicting the Liberals would be the most effective opposition that Canada has seen in years.

Amid rounds of enthusiastic applause, Graham urged the MPs to work hard to show the country that the Liberals deserve to return to power.

And the conservatives will be joining them shortly. And then we will all bask in the glow of Jack Layton and his bald head and mustache.

After more than a decade, I wouldn't blame them for gravitating toward the Government's rooms — they were, of course, on the Governments side of the House for more than a decade. Have you ever gotten that odd feeling when you wake up for the first time in a new house, and think "Oh, God, what is this place?"

That's probably what the Grits feel like in Opposition. ;)
